Help us create a better future, quicker!

At SP Energy Networks, we're delivering one of the UK's largest electricity infrastructure programmes, investing around £12 billion to modernise and expand our transmission network, enabling the transition to a cleaner, more secure energy future. As we accelerate progress towards Net Zero, operational telecommunications play a critical role in keeping our network connected, protected and resilient.

This is an exciting new role within our Network Planning and Regulation team, offering a unique opportunity to shape the future of operational telecoms across our transmission network. You'll play a key role in developing asset management strategies and policies for the SPEN Telecoms Network, ensuring resilient communications services that protect, control, and monitor our transmission and distribution infrastructure. This position offers excellent development opportunities to build technical expertise in telecoms asset management while contributing to Scotland's Net Zero goals.

What You’ll Be Doing

You'll work closely with the OT Telecoms Asset Strategy Manager to support the development and implementation of telecoms asset policies, standards and long-term investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Developing and maintaining asset management policies and strategies for the Operational Telecoms Network.
  • Supporting the creation of resilient communications services through effective inspection, maintenance and defect management practices.
  • Developing asset data models and information systems to monitor policy compliance, performance and risk.
  • Ensuring telecoms asset strategies align with Cyber Security and NIS regulatory requirements.
  • Contributing to asset risk, health and performance methodologies that inform future investment decisions.
  • Supporting the development of robust business cases and investment need submissions.
  • Building strong working relationships with operational teams to track and support delivery of transmission and distribution business plans.
  • Analysing telecoms faults and failures, identifying trends, lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitoring emerging technologies and industry developments to support innovation and future network capability.
  • Contributing to strategic investment plans and regulatory price review submissions.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for someone with a passion for telecoms, asset management and continuous improvement who can combine technical knowledge with strong analytical and stakeholder management skills.

You'll Ideally Have

  • A degree in Engineering, Telecommunications or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of operational telecoms networks and technologies such as SDH/PDH, MPLS-TP, optical networks, IP, Ethernet and wireless/mobile communications.
  • An understanding of asset management principles and frameworks, including ISO 55000.
  • Awareness of regulatory and cyber security requirements, particularly NIS regulations.
  • Experience analysing technical information and translating findings into practical recommendations, policies or plans.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across multiple business functions.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with a desire to learn and develop within a specialist telecoms asset management environment.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to meetings and operational sites as required.
