Technical Instructor for Stroke and Neuro - Inpatient Therapy Services
Requirements
Applicants must have GCSEs in Maths and English at grade A–C or grade 4 or above, and an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent. Required experience and knowledge include working as a healthcare support worker and as part of a team, awareness of stroke rehabilitation and health and social care systems, and the ability to communicate clearly, follow delegated plans, manage time, and work independently under direction.

The Neurology Inpatient Therapy Team are currently seeking a highly motivated Band 3 Technical Instructor; preferably with knowledge and/or experience of working with patient who have had a stroke, to join our integrated team.
The role is based on Gate A2 at Pinderfields Hospital; however, a flexible approach to be able to support neurology areas across both Pinderfields and Dewsbury Hospital is required.
The team currently provide therapy assessment and treatment over a 7 day service to facilitate rehabilitation and timely discharges from hospital.
The post advertised is for 30 hours with the non-working day for the successful candidate being a Thursday. Shorter hours across 5 days could be considered following further discussions post interview. this would be negotiated to ensure optimum service cover for peak patient assessment and treatment times.

The main duties and skills required to meet this exciting but demanding post are:
- The ability to carry out treatment/assessment plans as delegated by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist. This includes, but not limited to: mobility and transfer practise with or without moving and handling equipment. Personal care and toileting practice with the ability to support patient with washing and grooming in areas they are unable to complete themselves. Supporting with drink and meal practise. Completing ongoing referrals into community once a patient is discharged.
- The ability to relate to people effectively, in both group and individual settings
- The ability to work as part of a large multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; the the ability to use multi IT systems including SystmOne, PPM+ and Microsoft
- The ability to be flexible and able to manage own time efficiently.
Qualifications
Essential person specification requirements
- GSCE in Maths and English at grade A-C / grade 4 or above.
- NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
- Working as a support worker within a health care setting
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Awareness of the impact of health and disability on lifestyle
- Awareness of health and social care systems
- Awareness of treatment/ rehabilitation following stroke
- Awareness of how communication can be adapted to respond to a variety of clinical situations
- Awareness of the role of an occupational therapist and physiotherapist in healthcare
- Knowledge and health and safety issues with the work place and how risk can be managed
- Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Able to work independently under direction and follow through agreed plans
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
- Ability to participate and complete competency and training frameworks relevant to post
