The Role
The opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Paediatric Haemato-Oncology Day Unit, Ward 2B Schiehallion Day Care, Royal Hospital for Children.
The paediatric haematology/oncology unit provides a regional service for the treatment of childhood leukaemias, as well as a range of other malignant and non-malignant haematological disorders and oncological conditions. We are the paediatric haematology and oncology reference centre for the West of Scotland. Furthermore, we provide a national service for Paediatric Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant and host the Scottish Paediatric Molecular Radiotherapy service.
The function of the Day Care Ward is to provide patient-specific care to children requiring assessment, investigations and treatment for various haematology and oncology conditions. We provide specialised care for children requiring bone marrow transplant and follow-up care for those who have received the same. Admission via the Day Care Unit can be both elective and emergency, and we work closely with the paediatric haemato-oncology inpatient ward to facilitate excellent patient care. Treatment is provided to children ranging from birth to 18 years of age, and we liaise closely with other Haematology/Oncology centres participating in shared care with other units to achieve the best patient care delivery.
