Staff Nurse / ODP - Theatres and Critical care

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well established team within Vale of Leven Day Surgery Theatre Department.

The Day surgery unit at the Vale of Leven operates on a Mon-Fri basis providing high level, patient centred care to those patients accessing same day surgery for such specialties such as breast surgery, ophthalmic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, gynaecology and urology.

You will be a first level registered Nurse holding a valid NMC pin, or a registered operating department practitioner and hold a valid position on the HCPC register.

You will be a dynamic, professional and enthusiastic individual, motivated by a drive to provide high quality care aligning with the core values of the organisation.

You will be expected to work fluidly across the 3 domains of scrub practitioner, circulating practitioner and recovery practitioner, and be willing to undertake continued professional development.

The department benefits from the support of the perioperative education team who can support ongoing development for those who have no previous theatre experience, and support completion of the GG&C core competencies along with completion of the relevant COPE GG&C module .

For anaesthetic practice they will support along with the wider team completion of NES competencies and sign off.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

• Location based in Vale of Leven General Hospital
• Permanent Contract
• Part-time Position (25.5 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post Monday - Friday, 08:00-18:00/17:30

Key Responsibilities

• To assess patient needs, plan/implement and evaluate a programme of person-centred care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
• Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
• Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
• Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
• Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner; thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
• Complete clinical appraisal of pre-registration nurses and health care support staff
• Participate in performance appraisal in line with policy.
• Demonstrate own professional development.
• Support the implementation of research and clinical audit where appropriate.
• Support and contribute to the professional development of other registered nurses.
  
  

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• First/Second Level Registered Nurse / ODP with the ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
