Requirements

Applicants must have current UK professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, a relevant speech and language therapy degree, and a certificate to practise. They should have experience with adult stroke or acquired neurological communication disorders, multidisciplinary teamwork, relevant assessment and therapeutic approaches, and the flexibility and communication skills needed for acute inpatient work.

Job Description

This is a great opportunity for a newly qualified or suitably experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated Stroke and Neurology Team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH). The post holder will work within a high performing MDT across and be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary providing assessment and therapy for existing stroke and neurological inpatients.

The Therapy team on the HASU/ASU has already been recognised for delivering high quality care to patients. The post holder will be crucial in providing timely assessment and intensive rehabilitation during the acute recovery from stroke.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be offered the chance to gain experience in:

Acute Stroke Service at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

There may be the opportunity to also gain experience working in the Inpatient Rehabilitation stroke unit at Mexborough Montagu.

The successful post holder will be part of a positive and proactive integrated therapy team providing specialist assessments and rehabilitation for patients with acquired communication impairments and dysphagia. They will be supported to develop competencies is dysphagia management as required.

Depending on the experience, skills and competencies the successful applicant may contribute to the delivery of 7 day services on HASU. There is full senior support and a structured supervision process. A flexible and pro-active approach is essential for this post, as are excellent communication and team working skills.
