Job Description

Specialist Oncology Pharmacist – Private Acute Hospital

£56,000 + Private Medical Insurance + 33 Days AL + Gym Membership + Much More!

Tunbridge Wells, Kent (Site-Based)

Monday to Friday, 8:30am–4:30pm

Want an Oncology Pharmacist role where your time is spent with patients — not in the aseptic unit?

Looking to work day to day within the specialist MDT Oncology team?

Seeking quality time with your patients, providing the highest possible care?

This could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for!

A leading private hospital in Tunbridge Wells, Kent is looking for an experienced Specialist Oncology Pharmacist to take the lead in its oncology pharmacy service.

This is a genuinely clinical, patient-facing role, with the majority of your working week dedicated to oncology and haemato-oncology. You’ll have daily patient contact, be part of oncology huddles, counsel patients directly and play a key role in ensuring their treatment is safe, effective and personalised. And importantly, there’s no aseptic unit commitment. Chemotherapy is compounded externally, meaning you can focus your expertise where it matters most — on your patients and their clinical care.

What’s on offer?

  • Up to £56,000, with some flexibility for the right candidate
  • 25 days annual leave (plus 8 days bank holiday)
  • Monday–Friday only
  • No on-call or weekend work
  • Private Medical Insurance
  • Free gym membership
  • Health and wellbeing benefits
  • Potential relocation support for the right candidate
  • Visa sponsorship available, subject to eligibility

Why this role?

  • Lead the oncology pharmacy service at site level
  • Spend approximately 80% of your time focused on oncology, with flexibility around your fifth day
  • Have regular face-to-face contact with oncology and haemato-oncology patients
  • Screen and verify SACT prescriptions and support safe treatment decisions
  • Counsel patients and provide specialist medicines information
  • Work closely with consultants and the wider oncology MDT
  • Support and develop colleagues in oncology competencies
  • Be part of a small, supportive pharmacy team with access to a wider oncology network
  • Develop your clinical leadership without stepping away from patient care

Your typical oncology caseload is around 3–8 patients per day, covering a mixture of IV, oral and subcutaneous treatments across oncology and haematology.

There’s also flexibility around your fifth working day. You can remain primarily focused on oncology or combine this with clinical pharmacy work on the surgical wards — depending on your interests.

Monday–Thursday are typically 8:30am–4:30pm, with Friday hours flexible between approximately 8:30am–4:30pm and 9:00am–5:00pm.

What you’ll bring

You’ll need to be an experienced oncology pharmacist who is confident working independently and ready to take ownership of the oncology service. You'll have:

  • UK GPhC registration — essential
  • At least 2–3 years’ oncology pharmacy experience within an NHS or private provider
  • BOPA Passport Level 2 with evidence of screening Cycle 1 oncology and haematology prescriptions
  • Experience screening and verifying oncology/haemato-oncology SACT prescriptions
  • Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with patients and clinical teams
  • Ideally, experience supervising or training colleagues

You’ll be supported by the Pharmacy Manager and the wider oncology pharmacy network — but this is a role for someone who already has a solid oncology foundation and is ready to lead from the front.

A small team where your expertise matters, you’ll join a close-knit Pharmacy team within a well-established private hospital, working alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and support staff.

As the site's lead oncology pharmacist, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the service, share your expertise and help develop the oncology capability of the wider team. And because you’re not tied up in aseptic production, your specialist knowledge can stay where it has the greatest impact, with your patients.

Ready to put clinical care first?

If you’re an oncology pharmacist who wants more patient contact, more clinical ownership and less time away from the bedside, we’d love to hear from you.

This isn’t just another oncology pharmacy role. It’s an opportunity to make your specialist expertise count — every day, with the patients who need it most.

Location

Based in Tunbridge Wells and commutable from Maidstone, Crowborough, Sevenoaks, Godstone, East Grinstead, Uckfield, Heathfield and Robertsbridge.
