Job Description

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6) to join the Regional Allied Health Professions Team within the Institute of Neurological Sciences (INS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Working across a highly specialist regional service, you will support patients with complex neurological, neurosurgical and oral and maxillofacial conditions to maximise their independence and rehabilitation potential. This is an excellent opportunity to develop advanced clinical expertise, leadership skills and involvement in service development, education and research.   • Full Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialist caseload of patients across neurological, neurosurgical and oral and maxillofacial services, providing comprehensive assessment, treatment and discharge planning
  • Deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to support rehabilitation, recovery and functional independence
  • Work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Provide clinical supervision, support and development opportunities for Band 5 Occupational Therapists, support workers and students
  • Lead and participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, service development projects and research activities
  • Provide specialist advice and education to patients, carers, colleagues and wider healthcare teams
  • Support the operational delivery of the service, deputising for senior colleagues when required and contributing to workforce planning and service improvement

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Significant post-registration experience including clinical experience working with neurological patients
  • Demonstrable knowledge of occupational therapy assessment and intervention within acute and rehabilitation settings
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and multidisciplinary working skills with the ability to manage complex clinical situations
  • Experience of supervising, supporting and developing staff, students or colleagues within a clinical environment
  • Evidence of participation in audit, quality improvement, research or service development activities
  • Strong organisational, leadership and IT skills with a commitment to ongoing professional development and specialist practice within neurosciences
