Position
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Medical Physics Technician based at University Hospital Ayr. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
Hours
36.00 hours per week.
From 1 April 2026, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change staff in Scotland will be reduced. Full-time hours will reduce from 37 to 36 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.
UK Driving Licence
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.

As a member of the Clinical Engineering section of the Medical Physics Department you will
Knowledge, Training And/or Experience Required For This Post
A degree in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent qualifications, is essential, however alternative qualifications, complemented by an acceptable knowledge, training and experience profile, to meet the required person specification, will be considered.
Completion of an IPEM approved training scheme leading to registration on the Register for Clinical Technologists (RCT) held by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM) is appropriate for this level. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates who are not on the register may be considered and supported to gain registration through equivalence. Membership of IPEM, or equivalent institution, at an appropriate level, is desirable.

- provide specialist support, repair and maintenance to a range of complex and highly complex medical equipment under the care of the medical physics department,
- act as section specialist in one or more categories, types or models of equipment,
- support work of the department by contributing to the training of clinical, nursing and other technical staff in respect of the use of medical equipment.
