Job Description

Do you have a curiosity for technology and a meticulous eye for detail? Are you looking to develop your software testing career, including automation, within a fast-growing SaaS company?

MyNewTerm is on a mission to digitise recruitment in education and connect schools and candidates directly. We are a SaaS platform enabling schools and multi-academy trusts to fully digitise their recruitment process, while offering candidates a simple, fully compliant way to apply online. Developed by teachers, we are driven by our moral purpose and our commitment to outstanding customer service.

As we continue our rapid growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Software Tester to join our team. You will join a group of smart, ambitious people who share a passion for building technology that makes a meaningful difference.

The role of a Software Tester (QA)

As a Software Tester you will work closely with our Product Owner and Software Engineers to ensure new and existing features are thoroughly tested before release.

This is a hands-on role focused on high-quality testing, identifying issues and building release confidence. It is primarily a manual testing role today, with a genuine and growing automation element as we expand our automation capability. If you have strong manual testing fundamentals and want to develop your automation skills, we will support you to do so.

The main responsibilities of a Software Tester

1. Manual Testing and Documentation
  • Execute manual test cases for web and mobile components of the platform.
  • Perform regression testing for new releases, bug fixes and deployments.
  • Log and track defects in Jira with clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
  • Conduct exploratory testing to identify usability, workflow and edge-case issues.
  • Record test results clearly and maintain test documentation and scenarios.

2. Test Design and Collaboration

  • Review user stories, requirements and acceptance criteria alongside product and engineering colleagues.
  • Create and maintain structured test cases and prepare test data.
  • Work closely with Software Engineers to understand expected behaviour and technical implementation.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies including refinement, planning and retrospectives.

3. Automated Testing

  • Execute and review automated test suites.
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of automated test coverage.
  • Contribute to writing automated test cases for key workflows, with support and training.
  • Build practical experience with automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines and release validation.

4. Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute ideas to improve QA processes, regression coverage, release quality and testing standards.
  • Provide structured feedback on defects, risks and areas for improvement.

 Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Your personal statement should address each of the following. Applications that do not address every essential criterion will not be shortlisted.

  • A minimum of two years commercial experience in software testing, QA or a related technical role.
  • Strong manual testing capability with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to write clear defect reports with reliable reproduction steps.
  • Understanding of automated testing concepts and why automation is used in modern software delivery.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
  • Confident using Jira or similar issue-tracking tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive and organised approach.

 Desirable (but not essential)

  • Hands-on experience contributing to automated test suites using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium or similar.
  • Some programming or scripting knowledge, for example JavaScript, Python or Java.
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Understanding of APIs and API testing, including tools such as Postman or Insomnia.

  • Familiarity with test management tools such as TestRail.
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and release workflows.
  • Experience or study in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience within EdTech or education environments.

We recognise candidates may not have experience across every desirable area and we encourage applications from people eager to develop their testing and automation capability.
