Requirements

Requires experience in structural analysis or dynamics, familiarity with finite element analysis, and working knowledge of structural analysis methods including hand calculations and lumped-parameter modelling. Mechanical-joint experience and appropriate clearance or nationality are required; experience with analysis tools, test support, customer requirements, and shock loads is desirable.

Job Description

About The Role

The Structural Integrity Engineer (SIE) is a senior technical specialist who analyses, develops, and validates the mechanical integrity of complex structural systems across light‑weight and heavy‑weight platforms. The role encompasses metallic, non‑metallic, and composite materials, covering design, production, testing, and maintenance phases. Core responsibilities include damage‑tolerance, durability, and structural modelling across dynamics, loads, stability, stress fatigue and thermal analyses. The duty cycle uses a broad array of engineering tools, notably MSC Nastran, MSC Marc, Siemens Simcenter, Beta CAE, ANSA, and PTC Creo.

Responsibilities

The Structural Integrity Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert in structural analysis and integrity decision‑making, operating within the Structural Integrity Group, a sub‑function of the Engineering Department. Core responsibilities will include:

Performing structural analyses on varied designs.

Producing and maintaining models generated from both in-house and commercial software codes to simulate specific events and general use (level 3 definition is “Develop, refine and own).

Writing analysis reports.

Defining and supporting test requirements, overseeing test execution and lead data reduction and correlation efforts to ensure alignment between analysis and test.

Developing and validating high‑fidelity finite‑element models for metallic, composite and hybrid structures.

Executing static, dynamic, vibrational, thermal and fluid‑structure interaction analyses.

Performing damage‑tolerance and fatigue assessments.

Authoring concise strength‑summary reports and risk assessments that satisfy MoD and customer standards.

Translating analysis outcomes into manufacturing instructions and inspection plans.

Leading knowledge‑transfer workshops and maintaining model libraries.

Championing process improvement through new software, material databases and automation scripts.

Representing the Company at design reviews, client briefings and external audits.

  • Familiarity with finite element analysis.
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis, including simplified methods such as hand calculations and lumped-parameter modelling.
  • Appropriate clearance / nationality.
  • Experience with mechanical joints.

Desired Skills

  • Experience evaluating designs using rigid body or flexible body analysis methods and tools.
  • Experience with LS-Dyna, Adams, Creo, Mathcad, Matlab.
  • Communications skills, both written and verbal, able to present and participate in meetings.
  • Proficiency performing kinematic/dynamic analysis of mechanisms and test support equipment.
  • Experience working to requirements, interfacing with customers and presenting technical analysis.
