Senior Software Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Lead Java AWS Microservices Engineer to support and enhance the existing WMX platform and help build innovative index and benchmark product capabilities and production processes.

The successful candidate will provide hands-on technical leadership across software design, development, cloud infrastructure, microservices, delivery planning, automation, and production engineering. The role will involve close collaboration with Product, Research, Partnerships, Governance, Policy, Sales Strategy, Operations, Marketing, Architecture, and Quality teams.

You will also coach and mentor junior software engineers and contribute to building strong technical capability within the WMX engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and implement robust software solutions using Java and AWS.
• Contribute to the evolution of the WMX platform and index/benchmark product capabilities.
• Develop clean, efficient, maintainable, and testable code.
• Review code and promote engineering standards and best practices.
• Design and develop scalable microservices-based solutions.
• Work with architects to decompose solutions into epics, features, and technical workstreams.
• Break epics into deliverable journeys in collaboration with Product Owners and Quality Leads.
• Lead the delivery of critical technical projects.
• Adapt existing architecture and design patterns to meet new product and business requirements.
• Contribute to cloud-based infrastructure and AWS platform design.
• Support real-time data handling and processing capabilities where required.
• Automate operational processes to reduce manual effort and improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with product, research, operations, governance, commercial, and external stakeholders.
• Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Coach, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level software engineers.
• Delegate, review, and guide technical work to ensure high-quality delivery.
• Contribute to production support, operational readiness, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing engineering culture.
• Use AI-assisted programming responsibly and effectively to improve productivity while maintaining code quality, security, testing, and design standards.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Significant professional experience in software development and delivery.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Java.
• In-depth experience with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable backend systems.
• Strong knowledge of software design principles and design patterns.
• Understanding of UML and technical design documentation.
• Experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.
• Experience with software development life cycle, quality assurance, testing, and delivery processes.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Experience reviewing code and contributing to engineering standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience mentoring or coaching software engineers.
• Ability to work independently and lead delivery with limited direction.

• Experience with real-time data handling or event-driven architectures.
• Python or C++ experience.
• Financial markets, index, benchmark, data, or analytics-platform experience.
• Experience with streaming technologies.
• Experience with AWS serverless, containers, Kubernetes, or infrastructure-as-code.
