Job Description

About us

Do you want to work on the end-to-end design of one the most innovative process systems on Earth, where you deploy 1 system a week, not 1 system a decade like most incumbents?

Rivan Industries is a synthetic fuel company decarbonising heavy industry. We’re making synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels, sustaining life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

There is no boilerplate engineering in this system, only the most innovative, problem solving engineers can thrive on this challenge. We practice our culture, working in small teams, expecting complete ownership and ground up reasoning from our engineers, whilst executing at speed. You will report directly to the Head of Electrolysis.

We operate with minimal process and bureaucracy, only what is essential to ensure our systems are safe, legally compliant, and deployed on time, everything else is up to you.

The role

Own process engineering of Rivan’s alkaline water electrolyser, covering both stack design and wider balance of plant.

You’ll take processes from first-principles concepts through P&IDs, equipment specification, detailed design, factory build and commissioning. Including:

  • Ideate novel architectures and system integrations from first principles
  • Own the full process design & engineering lifecycle from concept to commissioning
  • Work with mechanical engineers & workshop technicians to drive test rig development and validate hypotheses
  • Lead process safety engineering engineering - HAZOP/LOPA studies, relief systems and containment
  • Solve complex fluid and thermal problems, including multiphase flow and gas liquid systems
  • Work cross-functionally with engineers and technicians to bring your ideas to life, supporting commissioning and deployment

Core skills

  • 5+ years professional experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in chemical engineering or related field
  • Experience designing, building, commissioning and operating deployed process plants
  • Hands on workshop fabrication and build experience

Preferable skills

  • Hydrogen electrolysis, and/or other electrochemical processes
  • Producing and handling flammable gasses
  • Multiphase flow

Specifics

  • £70-100k Salary depending on experience
  • Significant share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South-East London
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • Private health insurance
  • Visa sponsorship available
  • Unlimited time-off

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
