About This Role
We are seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Senior Lecturer in Engineering Infrastructure and Sustainability to join our School of Engineering at UWE Bristol. In this role, you will contribute to the development of outstanding teaching and learning, internationally recognised research, knowledge exchange and industry collaboration across the rapidly evolving fields of engineering infrastructure, sustainability, digital engineering and engineering management. You will join a supportive and ambitious academic community based within our purpose-built engineering facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and specialist teaching spaces.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering high-quality lectures, seminars, laboratory sessions and project-based learning across a range of engineering programmes. You will contribute to teaching in areas such as sustainable infrastructure systems, sustainable infrastructure design, climate-resilient infrastructure, low-carbon materials and construction, infrastructure planning, infrastructure asset management, digital engineering, digital technologies for sustainable infrastructure, artificial intelligence applications in infrastructure, life cycle assessment (LCA), carbon assessment, environmental management, sustainable development policy, environmental legislation, infrastructure economics, infrastructure finance and stakeholder engagement. You will also develop and continuously enhance learning materials to reflect advances in engineering practice and management, sustainability, digital technologies and emerging industry needs.

This is a full-time appointment and presents an excellent opportunity for candidates with expertise in Infrastructure Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Digital Engineering and Engineering Management, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Engineering, Sustainable Construction, Infrastructure Asset Management, Smart Infrastructure, Climate Resilience, Artificial Intelligence for Infrastructure, or other closely related disciplines.
You will be joining a growing and ambitious School that places significant value on integrating research, industry engagement and professional practice into teaching and learning. There will be opportunities to contribute to the development and delivery of innovative curricula across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including our expanding portfolio in Sustainable Technology and Engineering Management, embedding sustainability, digital engineering, systems thinking and artificial intelligence to enhance student engagement, employability and professional competence.
We particularly welcome candidates who combine academic excellence with professional experience in design of engineering infrastructural systems and sustainability, digital modelling of infrastructure, low-carbon technologies engineering management and delivery of resilient infrastructure systems. Experience of collaborating with industry, government, local authorities or professional institutions to address infrastructure challenges and support the transition towards a sustainable, net-zero future would be highly valued.
Teaching responsibilities will span undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and include module leadership, laboratory teaching, supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral research projects, and contributions to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) provision. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an internationally recognised research profile, secure external research funding, contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives, and engage with professional bodies, industry and external stakeholders to enhance the School's research, innovation and societal impact.
About You
You will be an enthusiastic and innovative academic with a strong track record in engineering infrastructure and sustainability, capable of delivering excellent teaching, impactful research and meaningful engagement with industry and external partners. You will have a broad range of expertise across engineering infrastructure, sustainable engineering and the built environment, together with a commitment to developing the next generation of engineers equipped to address the challenges of climate change, digital transformation and the transition to a net-zero future.
You will possess expertise in one or more of the following areas: sustainable infrastructure systems, climate-resilient infrastructure, sustainable infrastructure design, low-carbon materials and construction, infrastructure planning, infrastructure asset management, life cycle assessment (LCA), whole-life carbon assessment, carbon assessment, environmental management, digital engineering, digital technologies for sustainable infrastructure, artificial intelligence applications in infrastructure, smart infrastructure, sustainable development policy, environmental legislation, infrastructure economics, stakeholder engagement, energy management, renewable technologies and sustainable engineering practice. You will have experience of embedding sustainability principles, including circular economy and whole-life thinking, within engineering education, research and professional practice.
You will demonstrate leadership in curriculum development, interdisciplinary collaboration and research-informed teaching, with the ability to develop innovative learning experiences that enhance student engagement, employability and professional competence. You will have an established or developing research profile aligned with the University's Transforming Futures Research Strategy 2020–2030, with the potential to secure external research funding, influence engineering practice and policy, and contribute to the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
You will hold, or be close to completing, a PhD in Engineering Infrastructure and Sustainability, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Engineering or a closely related discipline. Applications are also welcomed from candidates with substantial professional or consultancy experience who hold equivalent postgraduate qualifications. A recognised higher education teaching qualification, Fellowship of Advance HE, Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or membership of an appropriate professional institution would be advantageous.
You will have experience of working with industry, government, professional bodies or higher education institutions to develop teaching, research, consultancy or knowledge exchange activities. Above all, you will be passionate about inspiring future engineers, advancing sustainable infrastructure solutions and contributing to UWE Bristol's reputation for excellence in education, research and societal impact.
