About the Stem Cells and Organoid Platform (SCOP)
The Stem Cells and Organoids Platform (SCOP) at the Francis Crick Institute is a Science Technology Platform (STP) dedicated to advancing innovative research in human stem cell biology and organoid technologies. It provides specialised expertise and services that support the development of human model systems. By integrating complementary expertise in stem cells, gene editing, and organoid development, the platform provides an end-to-end pipeline for stem cell research, accelerating cutting-edge discovery across the institute.
About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Laboratory Research Scientist to lead and support advanced organoid and 3D human model projects within SCOP.
Working at the forefront of human in vitro model technologies, you will develop and optimize complex organoid systems including patient-derived and iPSC-derived models, while supporting collaborative research projects across the Crick. You will also play a key role in establishing new shared workflows, training researchers and helping shape the Crick’s capabilities in organoid technologies and stem cell biology.

What you’ll be doing
You will be responsible for:
- Leading organoid and stem cell projects across research and service activities within SCOP.
- Developing and optimising advanced 3D human models, including patient-derived and iPSC-derived organoids.
- Supporting quality control, troubleshooting and reproducibility of organoid workflows.
- Collaborating with research groups and other Science Technology Platforms across the Crick.
- Providing training, mentorship and technical guidance in organoid and stem cell techniques.
- Developing SOPs, project documentation and best-practice workflows.
- Supporting day-to-day laboratory operations and stem cell maintenance activities.
About you
You will have:
Essential:
(Minimum criteria*)
- Higher degree in a relevant field (PhD or MSc) with research experience in stem cell biology or organoid technologies.*
- Extensive proficiency in developing, maintaining and troubleshooting complex organoid systems, including patient-derived organoids, iPSC-derived organoids, co-culture systems, spheroids, assembloids, or other advanced 3D human model*
- Strong background in stem cell biology, with hands-on experience in the culture and maintenance of human pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs and/or ESCs).*
- Experience processing primary tissue samples, such as tissue biopsies and blood.*
- Strong scientific knowledge of techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and imaging*
- Strong organisational, communication and collaborative working skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting researchers within a laboratory environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, reproducible science.
Desirable
- Experience with genome editing or genetic modification workflows.
- Familiarity with automation tools, organ-on-a-chip systems or microfluidics.
- Experience with bioreactors or large-scale cell culture systems.
- Experience working within a user-facing platform or shared research facility.
