Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join at Director (AVP Equivalent) to be based in our Glasgow office.

The candidate will operate as an experienced member of the Change the Bank team, working across a shared global change agenda and reporting to a Change Team Manager. The successful candidate will combine hands-on data investigation with strong business analysis and project management capabilities. They will be expected to bring structure to ambiguity, operate with a high degree of autonomy and drive outcomes across functionally and geographically disparate teams.

The Successful Candidate Will Have The Following Responsibilities

  • Define the business case, scope, objectives, success measures and delivery approach for proposed data and transformation initiatives, supported by clear and decision-ready documentation.
  • Structure and manage complex projects and workstreams, developing detailed plans and actively managing scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and changes in conjunction with business and Technology partners.
  • Investigate large, complex and potentially unstructured datasets to identify trends, anomalies, data quality issues, control gaps, operational risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Work with data producers, owners, processors and consumers across Operations, Technology, Finance, Risk and Business teams to understand data requirements and usage front to back.
  • Document source-to-consumer data flows, lineage, transformations, business rules, ownership, dependencies and critical data elements across the operating model.
  • Perform root cause analysis of data, reconciliation and process issues, distinguish symptoms from underlying causes and develop practical recommendations for strategic remediation.
  • Assess the completeness, accuracy, timeliness, consistency and fitness for purpose of data, including the effectiveness of associated governance and control arrangements.
  • Translate complex data findings into clear business insights, requirements, management information and executive-level recommendations for a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partner with Change the Bank, Technology, Data, line teams, control functions and other stakeholders to deliver key aspects of supported projects and embed sustainable solutions.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops to align stakeholders on data definitions, ownership, requirements, target-state design and resolution of data issues.
  • Identify and deliver opportunities to re-engineer processes, simplify data flows, enhance the control framework and improve the quality, transparency and usability of management information.
  • Develop and maintain KPIs, data quality measures, dashboards and reporting that demonstrate delivery progress, control effectiveness and realized benefits.
  • Plan and perform User Acceptance Testing, including data validation and reconciliation of results, ensuring requirements, test evidence and supporting documentation remain complete and current.
  • Attend or host meetings within the Agile framework, including daily scrums, sprint planning, backlog reviews and retrospective sessions, where applicable.
  • Review changes proposed by TCS relating to processes, data, controls and documentation, ensuring they are appropriately challenged, evidenced and approved through the established change management process.
  • Provide clear upward and peer communication on progress, findings, decisions and issues; proactively escalate blockers and data risks with an appropriate sense of urgency.
  • Ensure project deliverables are completed to agreed deadlines and quality standards, or that expectations, trade-offs and recovery actions are actively managed.

Given the nature of the function, these responsibilities are not exhaustive and may change to support business requirements.

Experience requirements;

  • Proven experience delivering complex data, business analysis or transformation initiatives within a large organization, ideally in financial services.
  • Demonstrable ability to review, manipulate and investigate large, complex and unstructured datasets, identify patterns and exceptions, and form evidence-based conclusions.
  • Ability to understand data front to back, including sources, lineage, transformations, controls, ownership, consumption and downstream impacts.
  • Strong analytical, investigative and root cause problem-solving skills, with the ability to assimilate complex information and learn quickly.
  • Proven ability to independently structure and manage a project or workstream from initial problem definition through delivery and benefits realization.
  • Self-starter with strong ownership, initiative and accountability; comfortable operating with limited supervision in an ambiguous and evolving environment.
  • Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience working across functionally and geographically dispersed teams and differing levels of seniority.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data concepts, findings and recommendations concisely and confidently.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and quality, balanced with the ability to maintain an enterprise-wide and strategic perspective.
  • Strong Business Analysis skills, including requirements gathering, process mapping, data mapping and target-state design.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong PowerPoint, process mapping and value stream mapping documentation capabilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, bring control and structure to challenging situations and manage multiple priorities to deadline.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the confidence to challenge existing processes, assumptions and the status quo constructively.
