WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick. We are seeking a Research Fellow to conduct high-quality research on direct recycling strategies for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cathode materials as part of a successfully funded Horizon Europe project.

The successful candidate will work closely with internationally recognised universities, research institutes and industrial partners to advance the direct recycling and resynthesis of cathode materials from recycled feedstocks, with a strong focus on industrial relevance and scale-up potential.

About You

We are looking for someone with significant experience in:

  • Conducting independent and collaborative research within large, multidisciplinary and international consortia, including experimental planning, project delivery, technical discussions, data interpretation, reporting and scientific decision-making.
  • Developing and optimising processes for the resynthesis and thermal treatment of recycled LFP cathode materials, including binder removal and the restoration of material composition, structure and electrochemical performance.
  • Investigating the effect of key processing parameters, including precursor composition, temperature, mixing conditions and reaction time, on material purity, particle morphology and performance.
  • Characterising precursor, intermediate and final materials using appropriate chemical, structural, morphological and thermal analysis techniques.
  • Preparing electrodes, assembling laboratory-scale cells and conducting electrochemical testing to evaluate recycled materials and benchmark their performance against suitable commercial reference materials.
  • Establishing relationships between material composition, processing conditions, structure, morphology and electrochemical performance to support process optimisation.
  • Maintaining accurate experimental records and ensuring the quality, traceability and reproducibility of research data.
  • Disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conferences participation.

PhD Status

If you are near submission of your PhD, or have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made at Research Assistant level, at the highest spinal point of pay grade 5 (£34,610 per annum).

Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).
