Quality Inspector - CMM
Requirements
Candidates should have experience programming and operating CMMs from CAD models and engineering drawings, using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or equivalent. They should understand GD&T and ISO GPS or ASME Y14.5, have dimensional reporting and regulated manufacturing inspection experience, and meet BPSS requirements.
Job Description
Build quality into the future of autonomous systems.
SYOS designs and manufactures advanced uncrewed systems across air, land, sea and subsurface. We combine intelligent engineering, AI-driven autonomy and innovative design to create next-generation vehicles operating in some of the world's most challenging environments.
Our mission is to extend human capability, protect people and deliver operational advantage through accessible, scalable and intelligent autonomous technology. As we establish our new UK production facility, we're looking for a Quality Inspector – CMM to join our growing Quality team and play a key role in building our inspection capability from the ground up.
About the role
As the site's Quality Inspector, you'll be responsible for programming and operating the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to support dimensional inspection, incoming parts and First Article Inspection. Working closely with the Quality Manager and Supplier Quality Engineer, you'll help bring the CMM into service, establish robust inspection processes and ensure components meet the required engineering and quality standards.
What you'll be doing
- Help install, commission and qualify the site's CMM, including acceptance testing, measurement system analysis, calibration and environmental controls.
- Program and operate CMM routines from CAD models and engineering drawings, applying GD&T correctly and maintaining a controlled programme library.
- Carry out dimensional inspection of incoming components in line with sampling plans and part criticality.
- Produce accurate dimensional and First Article Inspection reports, recording actual measurements against required characteristics.
- Maintain and update CMM programmes following engineering changes and ensure revised parts are correctly inspected.
- Support measurement system analysis, capability studies and continuous improvement of inspection processes.
- Support wider quality activities including goods receipt, in-process and final inspection, while identifying and quarantining non-conforming product and supporting investigations.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a quality professional who is technically confident, detail-focused and takes pride in getting the measurements right. You'll ideally have:
- Experience programming and operating CMMs from CAD models and engineering drawings in a production or inspection environment.
- Experience with CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, with the ability to interpret drawings to ISO GPS or ASME Y14.5.
- Experience producing dimensional reports for First Article Inspection.
- Broader inspection experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accurate measurement and record keeping.
- The confidence to identify, document and escalate quality issues when required.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Engineering, Quality and Production teams.
- Ability to meet Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) requirements.
It would be advantageous if you also have experience with:
- Machined and cast component inspection.
- CMM installation or commissioning.
- Offline CMM programming.
- Measurement system analysis and capability studies.
- First Article Inspection to EN/AS 9102.
- Aerospace, defence or uncrewed systems.
- IPC/WHMA-A-620 or other relevant workmanship standards.
Why join SYOS?
This is more than an inspection role. You'll be joining the founding Quality team at a new UK production facility, giving you the opportunity to help establish the systems, standards and processes that will support SYOS's next stage of growth.
You'll work alongside engineers, manufacturers and technical specialists developing next-generation autonomous systems, with your work directly contributing to the quality and reliability of the products we build.
If you're a CMM specialist who enjoys working in a hands-on manufacturing environment and wants to help build something from the ground up, we'd love to hear from you.
