Job Description

About us

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

We are looking for a Process Project Engineer who will own everything on site related to gas, from pipework and reject gas handling to the grid entry unit, metering, the network pipeline and process safety across the site. The Rivan systems are designed and built by our R&D and Manufacturing teams; you own the site gas package they connect to, mechanical and process, from design basis to first gas.

The role

  • Lead the design of gas pipework, reject gas handling and the GEU and metering design basis from first principles, optimising capital and operating cost and ease of installation.
  • Lead the process safety studies, including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA/SIL, DSEAR and the pre-start-up safety review.
  • Own the mechanical scope of the gas package, including pressure equipment compliance, pipework fabrication and installation, pipeline route engineering, machine setting and lifting, with a mechanical or pipeline consultant where needed.
  • Get our designs approved by the gas network operator, working with the Gas Connections Manager who runs the connection process.
  • Set the technical requirements and evaluate bids with the commercial team to select pipework, GEU and pipeline contractors.
  • Own your scope through construction, resolving technical queries, deciding on changes, verifying pressure tests and inspections and signing off completion through first gas.
  • Work with the construction and commissioning teams to get your package finished and operational.
  • Find and interpret the gas regulations and standards in each country that set the design requirements.
  • Work from the factory HQ and be on site for pressure testing, gas-in and first gas.
  • Standardise the gas package design so each site is designed and built faster than the last.

Core skills

  • You have a chemical, process or mechanical engineering degree or equivalent, with real plant experience, and have taken a gas or process system from P&ID to operation.
  • You know what a network operator needs to see before gas is accepted, including gas quality, metering and pressure control.
  • You have facilitated or led HAZOP and DSEAR studies and can explain a LOPA.
  • You know PSSR and PED well enough to decide what needs a written scheme and a notified body.
  • You can scope pipework, supports and lifting and judge a consultant's answer.
  • You can find and apply the gas standards in a country you haven't worked in, such as IGEM in the UK and the operator rules in Spain and Portugal.
  • Experience in both the UK and Europe is valuable.

Specifics

  • £60 - 80k Salary depending on experience
  • Share options as part of the early team
  • Extensive relocation support, including £6000 per year extra to live close to our HQ
  • In-person work at our HQ in Bermondsey, South-East London – flexibility considered based on personal circumstances
  • Private health insurance
  • Visa sponsorship available
  • Unlimited time off

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.

If you don't see a current role that fits, we also welcome open applications via our website.
