Overview
We are recruiting an individual for a key role in our Transport Advisory Practice to support the delivery of a broad range of Advisory based transport projects across the North of England. The role will be working within the Rail and Transit Advisory (RTA) Discipline.
Rail and Transit Advisory (RTA) is a multidisciplinary transport advisory discipline that helps clients make evidence-based decisions about the development, funding, delivery and improvement of rail and transit schemes. Our work typically sits at the early stages of project development, where strategic thinking, robust analysis and clear communication are required to help clients define their objectives, understand options and build the case for investment. We are recruiting an individual for a key role in our Transport Advisory Practice to support the delivery of a broad range of Advisory based transport projects across the North of England. The role will be working within the Rail and Transit Advisory (RTA) Discipline.
We are looking for an individual who wishes to contribute to a high performing, dynamic team that works seamlessly with our wider National Transport Advisory practice. We expect this person to be helping to lead Transport Advisory for the North-East of England, working with clients and stakeholder to help the Advisory business develop project pipelines, write and manage proposals, develop client and stakeholder relationships and deliver critical rail and transport Advisory projects.
Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you’ll work on exciting projects. The person needs to have a strong understanding of rail policy, operations, commercial drivers and passenger or user outcomes. They will have the ability to work with data and technical evidence, while also understanding how analysis supports wider strategic, financial, operational and client decision-making.
The successful candidate will join a team with a well-balanced blend of skills focused on meeting our client needs. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to add further value and support our ambitious growth agenda. The successful candidate for this role will help the transport advisory team in securing and delivering work from local clients, developing their own networks and knowledge base.
Your role
- You will be part of our multidisciplinary teams focused on delivering high-quality outputs for our clients.
- You will work as part of our dynamic and integrated team, and autonomously when required.
- You will interface directly with clients to manage and nurture long lasting relationships.
- You will prepare technical analysis supporting the teams project development.
- You will prepare reports and presentations for a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- You will contribute to business development and bid writing.
- You will provide project management support to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery to our clients.
- You will be empowered and supported to continually develop yourself and those around you.
About you
- A degree or equivalent qualification in transport planning, or a related subject such as economics, mathematics, physics or geography.
- Experience and in-depth understanding of the transportation industry, preferably across multiple modes, but with a focus on rail.
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills, with experience using Microsoft Excel to structure data, undertake calculations and present results clearly.
- Ability to interpret data, identify trends and explain the implications of analysis in plain English.
- Excellent communication skills with strong report writing capability, with the ability to prepare and present information to a range of audiences.
- Ability to manage and quality assure own work, including checking calculations, version control, documenting assumptions and keeping clear audit trails.
- A proven track record of delivering high-quality analysis to tight deadlines.
- Experience working in a collaborative environment combined with the drive and ability to work independently.
- Experience in client and stakeholder management and the confidence to build your own networks.
The role does not require the candidate to be an established rail only specialist, but they should be able to demonstrate strong analytical foundations and an interest in applying these skills to rail and transit advisory work as the key focus.
The following would be desirable but are not essential:
- An understanding of transport planning, economics, geography, engineering, public policy, finance, data analytics or a related discipline.
- Awareness of rail and public transport issues, including the role of rail and transit in supporting economic growth, decarbonisation, connectivity, regeneration and social outcomes.
- Familiarity with business case or appraisal principles.
- Experience with data visualisation, GIS, coding, or transport modelling.
