Locations across Northwest England and Central Belt of Scotland

Purpose
The Power Academy is a unique partnership between industry and academia, established to address the looming skills shortage in power engineering through a combination of financial support and workplace mentoring for students.
Several scholarships are awarded each year to students at participating universities.
Criteria
Students should undertake the relevant degree at either BEng or MEng level and are on course to achieve a 2nd class honours degree.
Students can be in any year of study when applying. If you’re in your first year, then your previous academic achievements will be taken into account. When submitting your application, please clearly state which academic year you are in.
We are looking for applications from individuals studying at the following IET Associated Universities to join our program:
The Programme
A Power Academy Scholarship Provides
SP Energy Networks Scholars will be given an appreciation of typical Distribution or Transmission Network Activities including planned maintenance, new connections, construction and faults.
During placements Scholars will also be given specific business projects to deliver with support from placement Managers.
Location
You will be at one of our operational depots in the Northwest of England, Prenton Wirral or across the Central Belt of Scotland, including our Head Office in Glasgow City Centre.
Selection Process
Online Assessments will take place in December 2026 with final Assessment Centres taking place on the 13th 14th and 18th January 2027.

The Programme
A Power Academy Scholarship Provides
- A bursary of £3,000 for each year of study
- £250 for books and software
- Mentors from industry partners
- Paid c. 10-week summer work placement
- Summer placement salary of £25,950 (this will be pro-rata)
- Invitation to high level seminar on important sector issues
