Requirements

Candidates must be experienced and highly motivated researchers with specific expertise in quantitative genetics. A background in medical genetics or pandemic science is highly desirable.

Job Description

 

Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum, pro rata if part-time

CMVM / Institute for Regeneration and Repair / Centre for Inflammation Research

Full-time: 35 hours per week

Fixed-term: until 30th November 2028

The Opportunity: 

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with expertise in quantitative genetics to join the Baillie Laboratory (www.baillielab.net), led by Professor Kenneth Baillie, within the Roslin Institute and the Baillie Gifford Pandemic Science Hub.

The Baillie Lab is an interdisciplinary team of dedicated and highly capable people, focused on using genetics to find new therapies and treatments for critically ill patients. The team has made several contributions that have already improved medical practice. This includes using genetics to find the cause of unknown hepatitis in children (Nature, 2023a; Nature, 2023b) and identifying 49 genetic variants underlying with critical illness in COVID-19 (Nature, 2023; Nature, 2022).

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The Institute for Regeneration and Repair
The Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR) is cross-College with staff and students from the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine (CMVM) School of Regeneration and Repair (SRR) and the College of Science and Engineering (CSE), School of Biological Sciences and School of Chemistry. The School of Regeneration and Repair is one of six schools in CMVM.

At IRR our scientists and clinicians study tissue regeneration and repair to advance human health and reproductive outcomes. The Institute incorporates three leading research centres with a focus on regenerative medicine, inflammation and reproductive health. Our Director is Professor Stuart Forbes.

IRR has a 5-year income of over £200M and is a collaborative hub for commercial, clinical and academic endeavour. Based at Edinburgh BioQuarter we bring together world leading research expertise to drive understanding and deliver clinical and translational outcomes.
