About The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic part time (approx. 25.5 hours per week) band 5 Registered Nurse to join our friendly Outpatient team at Pontefract; Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. Outpatients is the window to the hospital for many patients experiencing their hospital journey. We are a busy team who support a variety of specialities in our Outpatient clinic rooms. The role of the Outpatient nurse is to provide help and support to the patients and service users. The nurse will ensure a smooth flow through the outpatient setting, starting with the correct preparation of clinic areas, use of good communication skills, undertaking of physiological measurements, and acting as a chaperone within the clinic setting. We are predominantly a Monday Friday service covering clinics from 8am-6pm.

Main duties
Promoting and delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care to individuals attending outpatient departments and specialist clinics.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Assessing patients' physical, psychological, and social needs upon attendance at the clinic.
- Preparing patients for consultations, examinations, investigations, and procedures.
- Monitoring patients before, during, and after procedures, identifying and responding to any deterioration in condition.
- Performing clinical procedures such as venepuncture, cannulation, wound care, dressings, ECGs, injections, and specimen collection, in accordance with competence and local policies.
- Administering medications safely and accurately in line with legislation, Trust policies, and professional standards.
- Providing health education, advice, and support to patients and carers to promote self-management and informed decision-making.
- Supporting consultants, specialist nurses, and the multidisciplinary team during clinics and treatment sessions.
- Coordinating patient pathways, follow-up appointments, referrals, and investigations to ensure timely and effective care.
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential patient records using electronic and paper documentation systems.
- Escalating clinical concerns appropriately and contributing to safeguarding adults and children.
- Ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control standards, health and safety requirements, and quality governance frameworks.
- Participating in audit, quality improvement initiatives, and service development activities.
- Supervising, mentoring, and supporting junior staff, students, and healthcare support workers.
- Contributing to staff education, training, and maintaining own professional development and NMC revalidation requirements.
- Promoting a positive patient experience by delivering compassionate, respectful, and dignified care at all times.
- Managing clinic flow and resources effectively to support efficient service delivery and achievement of departmental objectives.
Qualifications
Essential person specification requirements
- Registered Nurse with the NMC or on an NMC approved BSc/MSc nursing programme due to register with the NMC within 12 months.
- Professional, clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree or equivalent.
- Up to date knowledge of current nursing issues, research and practice.
- Ability to plan, assess, implement and evaluate patient care.
- Prioritise tasks.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships.
- Delegate and co-ordinate person centred patient care effectively.
- Work effectively as part of a Multidisciplinary Team.
- Supervise junior staff and learners in practice.
- An ability to perform clinical skills with dexterity for example: insertion and removal of peripheral cannulation, venepuncture and catheters.
- Administer medications using a range of routes IT skills which can be built upon to incorporate the use of hospital administration, information and training systems.
