Description

TTEP South Humber Bank Power Station is seeking to recruit a permanent Operations Support Technician to support the operation and maintenance of the plant. The role is responsible for helping to ensure the safe and efficient generation of electricity, meeting customer requirements, delivering best business value and maintaining compliance with company policies and statutory obligations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out analytical data collection for the European Trading Scheme (ETS), managing the site physical security contract, and overseeing the water analysis contract.

In addition, the postholder will provide ad hoc support by notifying fuel requirements, operating the plant in accordance with TTEP procedures and National Grid instructions, and assisting in the implementation and monitoring of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements.

While on duty, the successful candidate will frequently work independently and will be expected to use their judgement, initiative and decision-making skills to operate the plant safely and effectively, often under demanding production and time constraints. The role also plays a key part in emergency response management and ensuring site security arrangements remain compliant with company standards and statutory requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Co-ordinator, the key duties and responsibilities include: 
  • Collect, review, analyse, and report environmental performance data daily, including all ETS-related monitoring and reporting activities. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of environmental records, ensure compliance with legislative and permit requirements, identify trends and opportunities for improvement, and provide timely environmental performance updates to stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage physical security contracts and water analysis programmes, ensuring contractor performance, compliance with site standards, and the effective protection of company assets. Oversee water sampling, testing, and reporting activities, analyse results, investigate deviations, and implement actions to maintain regulatory compliance and environmental performance.
  • This role is required to ensure that health, safety and environmental standards are maintained by providing direct supervision of work activities, carrying out the delegate person responsibility to assist in ensuring site compliance and elements of the Business Management System reflect the site practices.
  • Assist Shift Engineer/Team Leader in operating the Permit to Work (PTW) system as a senior authorised person with the application of the safety rule in all plant areas and single-ended feeds (not interconnected systems), including the release and emergency procedures to ensure compliance. 
  • Performs routine inspections and testing to plant items to ensure efficient production, environmental and safety compliance subject to relative competency and asset requirements. Responsible for accurately maintaining station and operating logs in a timely manner for statutory compliance purposes.
  • Manage the commercial data and liaise with EPUKI Traders and National Grid throughout the shift, including undertaking the gas nomination process and notifying EPUKI Traders of the position.
  • Ensures full awareness of the technical condition of the asset and is proactive in ensuring that any issues that may affect the HS&E, production capability availability are properly notified and acted upon.
  • Collects operational and HS&E data for inclusion into station logs and formal reports for use by an internal and statutory bodies e.g. Environmental Agency and ensuring that a comprehensive and through handover takes place between shift teams to maintain continuity of safe operations and ensure ongoing knowledge of work activities.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Background
  • Experience within the power generation industry, or industry with transferrable skills - essential.
  • Experience of laboratory analysis equipment and techniques – essential.
  • Good numeracy, literacy and problem-solving skills - essential.
  • Demonstrable competence in the use of IT/IS skills e.g. MS Office & MS Project - essential.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of ONC (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering subject – essential.
  • Minimum of HNC (or equivalent experience) in an appropriate engineering subject - desirable.
  • Completed a recognised formal training programme or apprenticeship to achieve technician status (C&G parts I, II &III) – desirable.
  • Member of recognised professional institution – desirable.
