Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Specialty Doctor

An excellent opportunity is available for a Speciality Doctor in Obstetrics & Gynaecology to join a supportive and well-established department in Scotland.

The post offers the opportunity to work within a close-knit multidisciplinary team, develop specialist interests and contribute to service development across a broad range of obstetric and gynaecological services.

The department provides a wide range of services including Infertility, Gynaecological Oncology, Colposcopy, Hysteroscopy, Menopause, Vulval Disease, Urogynaecology, and Maternal & Fetal Medicine. The service is also equipped for minimal-access gynaecological surgery and has comprehensive ultrasound facilities.

Main Duties The Successful Candidate Will

  • Work 10 sessions per week within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.
  • Participate in the resident 1:7 on-call rota, covering days, nights and weekends.
  • Provide clinical care across obstetric and gynaecological services.
  • Participate in elective daytime activity, including theatre and clinic rotations.
  • Manage obstetric and gynaecological patients across inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
  • Develop specialist skills and contribute to specialist services.
  • Take an active role in service review and service development.
  • Work collaboratively with Consultants, Speciality Doctors, Speciality Trainees, midwives and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The Department The department has an enthusiastic team comprising five Consultants, four Speciality Doctors and three Speciality Trainees.

  • Urogynaecology
  • Maternal & Fetal Medicine
  • Minimal-access gynaecological surgery
  • Obstetric ultrasound and antenatal services.

The maternity service has a dedicated obstetric theatre and recovery facility, with 6 labour, delivery, recovery, and postpartum beds, 2 assessment rooms, and 12 maternity beds. The annual delivery rate is just under 1,200.

There is also a neonatal unit with 9 cots that provides high-dependency care and has close links to the Paediatric department. Person Specification Essential

  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
  • MRCOG Part 1 or equivalent
  • Evidence of working at ST3+ or equivalent level in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Substantial commitment to the specialty
  • Ability to provide an expert clinical opinion within the speciality
  • Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Experience of teaching undergraduate, postgraduate and junior medical staff
  • Evidence of involvement in research methodology and/or publication
  • Evidence of participation in audit or quality improvement projects
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • MRCOG Part 2 or equivalent
  • Completion of RCOG ATSMs or equivalent
  • Management and project leadership experience
  • Experience authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
  • Leadership/project management experience
  • Experience implementing service change
  • Experience developing or implementing new technologies.
  • Medical education qualification
  • Higher degree
  • Recent research publications
  • Evidence of changing practice as a result of audit.
