Requirements

Applicants must hold a recognised professional qualification and current registration with the relevant professional body, such as the NMC or HCPC. The role requires experience supporting children and young people with eating disorders, including complex risk management, adapting care for neurodevelopmental differences, delivering or supporting evidence-based interventions, and working with families and multi-agency networks.

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the innovative and friendly SET CAMHS Eating Disorder Service, supporting children and young people across Essex, Thurrock and Southend.

We are seeking an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or Allied Health Professional (e.g. CBT Therapist, Psychotherapist, Occupational Therapist) to support the delivery and ongoing development of a range of NICE-concordant interventions for children and young people presenting with eating disorders.

The post holder will work closely with the CAMHS Manager and Clinical Leads to support the delivery of high-quality clinical care, contribute to clinical leadership, and provide clinical oversight across the service. They will be responsible for undertaking assessments, delivering evidence-based interventions, monitoring outcomes, and contributing to service development. The post holder will also provide line management, clinical supervision, and professional support to staff within the team.

Applicants must hold a recognised professional qualification and current registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. NMC, HCPC, or equivalent).

This role would suit clinicians with experience of working with children and young people presenting with eating disorders, including adapting interventions for those with neurodevelopmental differences. Experience of working collaboratively with wider professional networks, including education, social care, acute hospitals, inpatient psychiatric services, and families/carers, is essential.

Clinical Skills Required

  • Working alongside colleagues within the SET CAMHS Eating Disorder Service to provide comprehensive and specialist assessments of children, young people, and their families where eating disorders coexist with complex mental health needs. This will include identifying strengths and difficulties, developing formulations, and determining the most appropriate treatment plans.
  • Providing therapeutic interventions that are sensitive to and inclusive of cultural, racial, religious, gender, and sexual diversity, ensuring equitable access to care and positive outcomes for all children, young people, and families.
  • Demonstrating experience in providing clinical supervision, mentoring, or professional support to staff, and undertaking delegated leadership responsibilities within the team as required.
  • Delivering NICE-concordant evidence-based interventions, including Family Therapy for Anorexia Nervosa (FT/AN) and Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E), to children and young people presenting with complex eating disorders and co-occurring difficulties. This may include neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and learning disabilities, as well as emotional and mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, attachment-related difficulties, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Demonstrating experience in complex risk assessment and formulation, collaborative safety planning, and the management of clinical risk within community and multi-agency settings.
  • Working effectively in partnership with the wider network around the child or young person, including families/carers, education providers, social care, acute hospitals, and other relevant agencies, to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
  • Contributing to service development, quality improvement initiatives, and the implementation of innovative approaches to support children, young people, and their families.
  • Ideally, you will have experience of supervising and managing staff, alongside a strong commitment to service improvement and a passion for developing innovative and effective interventions for children and young people with eating disorders and their families.
