The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Emergency Department at the Royal Hospital for Children (RHC) as a Band 3 Nurse Support Worker. The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality clinical care to children and their families.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis following interview and during the pre-employment verification process. Permanent, part-time 34.5 hours per week
Shift Pattern - Days and Nights
Base location - Royal Hospital For Children
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality care to children and young people within the Emergency Department as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Record, document and escalate patient observations, including AVPU assessments.
- Maintain patient records, admission documentation, fluid charts and care progress charts.
- Apply plaster casts, wound dressings and tissue adhesive.
- Provide 1:1 support for vulnerable patients.
- Support patient transfers, including children requiring oxygen therapy.
- Assist with nasogastric and gastrostomy feeding.
- Recognise and escalate signs of deterioration in a child’s condition.
- Assist with meals, cleaning duties and stock management.
- Work closely with nursing, medical and wider multidisciplinary teams.
- SVQ Level 3 in Healthcare Support (Clinical) or equivalent.
- Successful completion of Band 3 training programme.
- Good knowledge base, including Emergency Department-specific skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced and changing clinical environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and escalate concerns appropriately.
- Competence in clinical skills assessed annually or as required.
- Attendance at mandatory annual updates and ongoing training.
- Sound knowledge of relevant clinical equipment and electronic patient record systems.
- Flexibility to work day and night shifts over a 7-day service.
