Requirements
Applicants should be a registered HCPC, NMC, or Social Work England practitioner, or have significant equivalent experience supporting people with mental health needs in higher education. They should have substantial assessment and risk-management experience, knowledge of student mental health and safeguarding, strong case-management and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

The role
Join London South Bank University (LSBU) as a part of the Mental Health and Wellbeing team and play a key role in supporting students to thrive throughout their university journey.
As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Advisor, you will provide specialist support to students experiencing a range of mental health and wellbeing challenges, working closely with colleagues across the University to ensure they receive timely, effective and coordinated support. What You Will Bring
- Be a registered practitioner with the HCPC, NMC or Social Work England, or have significant equivalent experience supporting individuals with mental health needs within a higher education setting.
- Have substantial experience conducting mental health assessments, including risk assessments and safety planning.
- Demonstrate experience supporting individuals presenting with complex mental health difficulties, including those in crisis.
- Show resilience, sound professional judgement and the ability to remain calm when managing complex or sensitive situations.
- Possess a strong understanding of the mental health challenges and support needs commonly experienced by university students.
- Have knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities, relevant legislation, and best practice in mental health support.
- Have experience liaising with NHS services, community organisations, and other external agencies to coordinate support.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills.
- Be able to work collaboratively with students, academic colleagues, professional services teams and external partners.
- Have strong organisational and case management skills, with the ability to manage a varied and demanding caseload.
- Be confident using digital systems and delivering support through a range of channels, including face-to-face, telephone and online platforms.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, creating an accessible and supportive environment for all students.
- Be proactive in identifying opportunities for service development and continuous improvement.
- Be committed to reflective practice, professional development and maintaining current knowledge of mental health policy and practice.
