At SYOS, we’re building the next generation of autonomous vehicles across air, land and sea.

We’re growing our UK production team and are looking for a Mechanical Technician - Aviation to join us in Fareham on a 6-month contract.

This is a hands-on role focused on assembling, installing, testing and troubleshooting the mechanical systems and structures used across unmanned aircraft, payloads and ground support equipment.

This is an initial 6-month contract, with the potential for the role to become permanent as SYOS continues to grow its UK production capability.

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble, install, repair, adjust and align metallic and composite components.
  • Build mechanical assemblies using CAD drawings, technical documentation and work instructions.
  • Conduct inspections, functional testing and pre-delivery checks.
  • Operate and maintain production equipment, tools and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical systems including fuel systems, landing gear, launchers, stabilisers, rotor systems and ICE powerplants.
  • Support payload integration, aircraft rigging and system integration.
  • Identify and resolve faults while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Maintain accurate build, inspection, test, maintenance, defect and configuration records.
  • Identify hazards and contribute to risk assessments, investigations and corrective actions.
  • Work closely with engineers, operators, suppliers and customers to deliver safe and reliable UAS.

What You’ll Bring

  • Level 3 technical qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience in mechanical engineering, aerospace, robotics or a related discipline.
  • Practical experience assembling, inspecting, testing and troubleshooting mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, CAD documentation, manuals and work instructions.
  • Strong understanding of tool control, FOD prevention and safe systems of work.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competence using standard Windows applications and electronic records.
  • Eligibility to obtain and retain any required security clearance.

Desirable: Experience with UAS mechanical systems or within aviation, defence, space, automotive or another safety-critical environment. HNC/HND or professional engineering registration is also advantageous.
