Job Description

Your new company
You will be joining a leading UK infrastructure services provider with a strong presence across the highways sector. The organisation delivers essential infrastructure services across a range of long-term contracts and frameworks and is looking to strengthen its senior estimating capability.

Your new role
As Managing Estimator, you will take a lead role in the pricing and commercial development of strategic highways and street-lighting term maintenance tenders.
You will be responsible for developing robust, competitive and commercially viable estimates, while establishing tender pricing strategies that consider risk, opportunity and market intelligence.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and pricing of major highways and term maintenance tenders
  • Producing detailed estimates from first principles
  • Preparing and reviewing cost models covering labour, plant, materials, subcontractors, preliminaries and overheads
  • Developing tender pricing strategies and identifying commercial risks and opportunities
  • Leading and coordinating estimating, operational, commercial, procurement and bid inputs
  • Managing supply chain enquiries, quotation reviews and adjudications
  • Presenting pricing recommendations at tender governance and sign-off reviews
  • Supporting client clarification meetings and commercial negotiations
  • Undertaking estimate assurance and peer reviews
  • Coaching and mentoring other estimating professionals
  • Driving continuous improvement and best practice across the estimating function

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will ideally come from a strong highways background with previous experience working on term maintenance and/or framework contracts. This is a senior appointment, so you will need extensive estimating experience and the ability to lead significant tender submissions.
You will ideally have:

  • Extensive estimating experience within highways, civil engineering, infrastructure or term maintenance
  • Strong highways experience, ideally across term maintenance and/or framework contracts
  • A proven track record of developing competitive and commercially robust tenders
  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial risk management
  • Experience developing estimates from first principles
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary tender teams
  • Strong analytical, numerical and commercial skills
  • Experience using Candy or similar estimating software
  • Advanced Excel capability
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A relevant degree or equivalent industry experience
  • Professional membership of RICS, CIOB or ACostE would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Flexibility to travel when required

What you'll get in return
You will have the opportunity to take on a managing estimating position within a major infrastructure environment, working on strategic highways opportunities and playing a key role in the development of competitive tender submissions.
