Job Description

Logistics Coordinator

VPG - Part of Zoetis | Home Based | 6-Month Contract Maternity Cover

Keep our diagnostics moving. Make a difference to animal health.

At VPG, part of Zoetis, we provide veterinary diagnostic services that help veterinary professionals make informed decisions and deliver the best possible care for animals.

We are looking for a Logistics Coordinator to join our team on a 6-month contract. This is a key coordination role, responsible for making sure pathology samples move safely, reliably and on time from customers to the right laboratory across the UK.

Behind every sample is a customer who needs a reliable service and, ultimately, an animal that needs the right care. Your role will be critical in making sure the logistics operation runs smoothly every day.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Logistics Manager, you will coordinate the day-to-day logistics operation, working closely with drivers, subcontractors, customers and laboratory teams.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing driver rotas and ensuring appropriate daily operational coverage.

  • Coordinating customer sample collections and deliveries to the relevant laboratory within agreed timeframes.

  • Responding to collection queries and investigating service issues, ensuring customers, drivers and laboratories receive clear and timely updates.

  • Coordinating subcontractor and courier coverage to maintain a reliable service.

  • Arranging hire cars and supporting other operational requirements as needed.

  • Maintaining accurate information in our CRM and People systems, including holiday and sickness records.

  • Supporting driver licence checks and maintaining vehicle insurance and fuel records.

  • Monitoring and maintaining accurate operational records to support safe and compliant logistics operations.

  • Working closely with the Logistics Manager to identify opportunities to improve processes and the customer experience.

  • Supporting other operational activities and duties as required.

What we're looking for

We're looking for an organised and proactive individual who enjoys coordinating multiple priorities and keeping things moving.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in logistics, transport, operations or administration.

  • Experience coordinating drivers, couriers, subcontractors or time-sensitive collections.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly when maintaining records and operational information.

  • Confidence communicating with customers and colleagues by telephone and email.

  • The ability to work independently while remaining a strong team player.

  • An understanding of the importance of safe and legally compliant logistics operations.

  • A practical, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to escalate issues when appropriate.

Equivalent practical experience will be considered, so if you have strong coordination and organisational skills but don't meet every requirement, we would still encourage you to apply.

Technical skills

You will need:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Teams.

  • Good Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables.

  • Confidence using CRM systems and maintaining accurate data.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Experience using Workday or a similar people-management system.

  • Experience maintaining vehicle, insurance, fuel or driver compliance records.

  • Experience arranging hire cars or coordinating courier and subcontractor services.

Working pattern

This is a home-based role, working Monday to Friday, normally 9:00am-6:00pm

The role may involve occasional travel to a laboratory site.

Occasional out-of-hours cover may be required during the Logistics Manager's absence and will be paid at the applicable overtime rate.
