Locum Consultant in Obs & Gynae - Specialist interest in Fetal Care

12 Month FTC - 10PA Job Plan

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist to join our dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team for a 12 month fixed term period.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant to contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care across the full spectrum of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services while supporting the continued development of the department.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive Obstetric and Gynaecology care and possess the clinical skills required to manage a wide range of complex patient needs.

Key responsibilities will include:


  • Delivering high-quality, evidence-based Obstetric and Gynaecology care.
  • Working closely with colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT), including participation in regular MDT meetings and discussions.
  • Maintaining continuing responsibility for patients under your care, including associated administrative duties, supported by dedicated secretarial assistance.
  • Contributing to the development of specialist interests that align with departmental priorities and the wider strategic objectives of the Trust.
  • Participating in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, teaching, examinations, accreditation activities and continuing professional development.
  • Providing reciprocal cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of annual, study and other approved leave in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Supporting clinical governance through participation in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives and continuing medical education activities.
  • Undertaking appropriate duties during emergencies and unforeseen circumstances to support service delivery.
  • Participating in the Consultant out-of-hours rota as detailed within the agreed job plan.

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:

All staff in each Division are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. Consultants are key members of the Division and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to service that will improve the patient experience.


  • To support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
  • To contribute to the leadership and development of Services under the direction of the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trusts business plans.
  • The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Division including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in other Divisions within the Trust.
  • As part of the Division Management Team, assist in the cost-effective utilisation of resources, including pay and non-pay items such as equipment and drugs, within budgets.
  • Work within the Trusts framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
  • Undertake direct supervision of junior colleagues and participate in departmental/trust wide teaching programmes.
  • Undertake investigations and report writing for incidents and participate in clinical risk management
  • Appointed candidates will embody the STAR values and use the principles of the NHS Constitution for England to guide decisions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Qualifications Essential


  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG or equivalent approved by PMETB
  • CCT or eligible within 6months of interview date and can demonstrate evidence that they are expected to achieve CCT or equivalent within 6 months
  • Fetal care SITM


Desirable


  • MD other relevant Higher Medical Degree or qualifications
  • Prenatal diagnosis SITM


Experience Essential


  • Clinical training and experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required to gain entry to the UK Certificate of Completed Training (CCT)
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of Obstetric and Gynaecological problems both emergency and elective
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.

  • Formal teaching qualification
  • Educational supervisor training
  • Experience in performing outpatient hysteroscopy procedures.
