Job Title: Lead Software Engineer
Salary: £69,624 to £87,030
Location: Manchester
Hours: Full-time
Working Pattern: Hybrid – spend at least two days per week (or 40% of your time) at the above location.
What you'll be doing
We are modernising our infrastructure using Google Cloud, building platforms that are secure, resilient for customers, and simple and efficient for engineers to use.
As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will work as part of a collaborative, product‑focused team to design, build, operate and improve cloud infrastructure and services. You will contribute to meaningful products, support continuous improvement, and help deliver reliable and scalable solutions that make a positive impact for customers.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop and improve cloud infrastructure and platform services
Write, review and maintain Infrastructure as Code, ensuring security and quality standards are met
Support the operation of existing products and services, including incident response and customer requests
Develop, test and release new features and enhancements for existing platforms
Manage and track work through agreed delivery tools and processes (e.g. Jira)
Use automation and AI‑enabled tooling to improve efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness
Identify opportunities to improve products, services and operational processes
Contribute to planning and roadmap activities
Actively invest in learning, development and knowledge‑sharing
Support and mentor junior engineers, helping to build an inclusive and supportive team culture
Provide cover for the Lead Engineer when required
What we're looking for
Experience designing, building or supporting cloud‑based infrastructure solutions
Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform or equivalent)
Experience with version control and collaboration tools (e.g. GitHub or similar)
Understanding of engineering practices and industry best standards
Experience working in agile delivery environments (e.g. Scrum or Kanban)
Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD
Ability to communicate clearly, listen to different perspectives and contribute constructively
Ability to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions
Proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical issues or bottlenecks
