VIQU have partnered with a well-established engineering business that is investing heavily in the growth of its High Voltage division. Following continued success across the utilities sector, they're bringing HV design capability in-house and are looking for a Lead HV Design Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the function from day one.

This is a rare opportunity to join as the first HV design hire, taking ownership of technical delivery while helping build and develop the future engineering team. The role is ideal for a technically strong HV Design Engineer who still enjoys producing and reviewing designs, but is looking to progress into leadership as the capability grows.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead the delivery of HV substation design projects, with a focus on Primary Design or Protection & Control.
  • Produce and review HV electrical designs, calculations, schematics, layouts and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary design activities across civil, electrical and external design partners.
  • Ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and aligned with DNO and industry standards.
  • Act as the technical interface between the business, clients, contractors and design partners.
  • Support bids, technical proposals and the ongoing development of internal engineering processes and standards.
  • Help establish and grow the company's in-house HV engineering capability.

Technologies & Experience

  • HV Substation Design (33kV-132kV)
  • Primary Design and/or Protection & Control
  • DNO, IDNO, ICP or utility infrastructure experience
  • Electrical calculations, schematics and design documentation
  • NERS or regulated utility environments (desirable)
  • Microsoft Office and engineering/document management tools

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Strong hands-on HV design experience with the ability to actively produce and review designs.
  • Experience working on utility or substation projects within DNO, IDNO, ICP, Tier 1 contractor or consultancy environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to coordinate internal teams and external design partners.
  • An interest in developing and leading a growing engineering function over time.
