What you’ll be doing
As the Lead Engineer you will carry out power system studies and analysis to assess network and generation performance, including network capacity, voltage control, fault levels, transient stability, and power quality. The role supports compliance with industry standards, codes, and licence obligations while contributing to the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the transmission network.
Conduct power system studies to assess transmission network compliance with planning and operational standards, including the SQSS and Grid Code.
Develop, maintain, and validate transmission network analysis models and datasets.
Support network planning and connection applications by evaluating options, resolving technical challenges, and identifying innovative engineering solutions.
Liaise with customers and stakeholders on connection requirements, code compliance, voltage control, and quality of supply matters.
Lead or contribute to complex projects involving emerging technologies, network performance investigations, and system disturbances.
Participate in industry working groups to review and develop standards, codes, and engineering best practice.
Provide specialist technical support and engineering leadership across SPEN.
Contribute to strategic industry publications, system planning activities, and future network development initiatives.
What you'll bring
Extensive experience in power system analysis and design.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to a range of audiences.
Chartered Engineer status through the IET or an equivalent professional body.
Expert knowledge of power system studies, including load flow, fault level, stability, and power quality assessments.
Strong understanding of power system equipment and power electronic technologies.
Good working knowledge of power system analysis software, GB SQSS, Grid Code requirements, STC processes, and relevant industry standards.
Understanding of transmission network connections, regulatory frameworks, and the integration of onshore and offshore energy assets.
Awareness of commercial, financial, customer, and business considerations within the energy sector.
Minimum Criteria
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
Experience in power system design, analysis, and the use of power system modelling software.
Working knowledge of GB transmission planning and operational standards, including the SQSS and Grid Code.
Knowledge of one or more specialist areas such as HVDC, power system harmonics, electromagnetic transient analysis, or control systems.
