Job Description
We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Design Engineer to support concessions and non-conformance activities on a technically challenging aerospace engineering programme.
This role would suit a Graduate or Junior Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer looking to develop specialist experience within aerospace design, manufacturing and product integrity.
You will support the assessment of manufacturing deviations and non-conforming components, helping determine whether parts can be accepted, reworked or require further engineering action.

Key Responsibilities:
- Review and assess engineering concessions and non-conformances affecting aerospace mechanical and structural components.
- Investigate issues including dimensional deviations, material defects and manufacturing discrepancies.
- Support engineering decisions and technical dispositions, including use-as-is, rework, repair or rejection/scrap.
- Review engineering drawings, tolerances, specifications and manufacturing information to understand the impact of non-conformances.
- Work closely with Stress, Materials, Design, Manufacturing and Quality engineers to determine whether deviations are technically acceptable.
- Support the preparation of engineering justifications, concession reports, deviation requests and non-conformance documentation.
- Ensure engineering decisions maintain design intent, structural integrity, safety and applicable aerospace requirements.
- Support root-cause analysis (RCA) for recurring manufacturing or product issues.
- Contribute to corrective actions, including design changes and manufacturing process improvements.
- Provide engineering support to manufacturing and quality teams during the implementation of approved concessions.
- Maintain accurate records and traceability of engineering concessions using relevant PLM and configuration management systems.
- Support communication with internal stakeholders, suppliers and customers to resolve technical queries.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Good understanding of mechanical design principles.
- Ability to understand and interpret 2D engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances.
- Understanding of GD&T / geometric tolerancing.
- Basic understanding of engineering materials and common manufacturing processes.
- An interest in developing expertise within concessions, non-conformance management and aerospace design engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good technical communication and documentation skills.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
Desirable Skills:
- CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX or SolidWorks
- Aerospace mechanical or structural design
- Landing gear or aircraft structural systems
- Metallic materials and component design
- Forging, machining and heat-treatment processes
- Dimensional and tolerance analysis
- Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)
- Engineering concessions and deviation requests
- MRB / Material Review Board activities
- FEA tools such as ANSYS or NASTRAN
- PLM systems such as Teamcenter or Windchill
