While the postholder will contribute to service delivery, the overarching purpose of the post is to provide defined educational opportunities, supervised clinical practice, and experience aligned to the relevant specialty training curriculum

Main duties of the job
The Gastro dept has a 6 month post for an SHO at ST1-2 IMT level, which is an opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic dept that comprises of 4 gastro teams delivering specialist and general care in a busy teaching hospital. You would take part in the daily care of in-pts.
You will be allocated a team which could include gastro outreach (for post take consultants), a specialist nutrition team or Gastro 1 and 2 (general gastro/IBD/general medicine), where they will collaborate with a consultant and on occasions lead the ward round. You may be asked to clerk direct admissions from the IBD helpline /gastro clinic, endoscopy, or review pts on the same day medical unit (SMDU).
You will be required to ensure the smooth day to day running of the inpatient care, alongside the ACPs and Foundation doctors and help assure good levels of care for the gastro in-pts, and effective handover of pts to community care with discharge summaries. There will be opportunities to see pts alongside cons in gastro clinics.
There is weekly dept teaching, IBD and endoscopy journal clubs and Grand Round teaching on a weekly basis during academic term time. We encourage you to contribute to local teaching sessions as well as teaching 3rd and 5th year medical students. A supervisor will be allocated.
There is a commitment to delivering high quality care with a mix of specialist gastroenterology patients (such as complex IBD, intestinal failure), general luminal gastro and general internal medicine.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The main duties are daily ward rounds with the assigned team to document and smoothly run the wards rounds, ensuring that the jobs and reviews are done, clerking direct specialist admissions to the team and supporting foundation doctors to supervise effective handover to primary care.

Additional Information
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed fellow doctors and dentists. Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave.
Grades for Trust appointed fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay).
