Job Description

This is a hybrid role where some working in our office in central Bristol will be required.

We’re looking for a hands-on Java Platform Software Engineer to help build and evolve reliable, scalable services used across a multi-tenant platform.

In this role, you’ll own defined areas of our platform—such as service modules or SDK capabilities—and take them from design through delivery, operation and improvement. You’ll work closely with engineers, technical leads and customer-facing teams to solve meaningful problems, improve service resilience and deliver an excellent developer and customer experience.

What you’ll do

  • Own and evolve platform components, service modules or SDK areas, including clear and stable contracts for multi-tenant use.
  • Design, build, test and optimise Java software features and enhancements that meet business and operational needs.
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues across connected services, developing safe remediation plans that protect compatibility and minimise customer impact.
  • Build resilient, scalable and observable services, applying appropriate capacity, performance and reliability patterns.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, including versioning, lifecycle and interoperability strategies.
  • Use profiling, logging, monitoring and functional and non-functional testing to improve performance, quality and reliability.
  • Lead code reviews in your area of expertise and contribute to high standards of engineering practice.
  • Partner with architects and technical leads to ensure solutions align with agreed system architecture and design principles.
  • Support customer-reported issues, communicating clearly on immediate fixes and longer-term improvements.
  • Help strengthen secure coding, quality assurance, patching and maintenance practices across the team.
  • Document technical designs, implementation decisions and adoption guidance so other teams can use platform capabilities effectively.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong Java development experience, with a track record of delivering production-quality software.
  • Experience designing and maintaining APIs and services in a distributed or cloud-based environment.
  • Confidence debugging moderately complex issues across services, integrations and application components.
  • Practical knowledge of software testing, observability, performance optimisation and secure coding.
  • An understanding of software architecture, scalability and reliability principles.
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, product and support teams.
  • Strong ownership: you can manage priorities, deliver against timelines and adapt when requirements change.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, knowledge sharing and improving the way teams build and operate software.

Why join us?

You’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact on a platform used by multiple teams and customers. You’ll work on meaningful technical challenges, help shape engineering standards and grow alongside a collaborative team that values curiosity, quality and continuous improvement.
