This creates opportunities for our people to work on complex, cross-border assignments, collaborate with leading specialists across the network and build expertise across the full spectrum of UK and international tax services. From Belfast, our team supports a diverse client base that includes owner-managed businesses, large corporates and multinational groups, giving our people exposure to some of the most interesting and complex tax challenges in the market while benefiting from the scale, resources and opportunities of a growing international platform.

The Grant Thornton Advisors (NI) Tax Team is a growing team of over 90 specialists with deep industry, sector and technical knowledge. Within this our International and Large Corporate Tax team is experiencing strong growth, with increasing demand for international tax, large corporate advisory and compliance services. We are therefore seeking an International Tax Manager/Associate Director to join our Belfast team and support the continued growth of the practice.

The role:

As a Manager/Associate Director, you will work closely with Directors, Partners and other senior team members to deliver high-quality international and large corporate tax services to a broad range of clients. You will take responsibility for managing client relationships, leading project delivery, developing team members and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.

This is a senior role within the team that offers exposure to complex international and large corporate tax matters, including cross-border projects, transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, Corporate Interest Restriction, CFC, corporate residence, restructuring and tax governance work.

Excellent opportunities exist for ambitious and driven candidates to progress within the firm. The position attracts a competitive remuneration package and ongoing career development.

Note that the below responsibilities may be adjusted depending on the role discussed.

Main responsibilities:

  • Manage the delivery of international and large corporate tax services for clients across a range of industries and sectors, ensuring high-quality outcomes, effective risk management and strong client service.
  • Lead or support international tax projects, which may include transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, controlled foreign companies, corporate residence, cross-border transactions and restructuring work.
  • Lead the provision of tax services to large corporate clients, including Corporate Interest Restriction reviews and tax governance assignments.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, including project plans, deadlines, prioritisation, team coordination, budgets and billing.
  • Act as a key contact for clients on assigned matters, building trusted relationships and providing clear, commercially focused advice.
  • Identify technical, delivery or risk issues and escalate complex, judgemental or higher-risk matters promptly.
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior team members, providing technical guidance, on-the-job development and performance feedback.
  • Contribute to the tax practice’s development by proactively managing existing clients and identifying opportunities to undertake additional or new client work.

Skills and Attributes:

  • ACA/ACCA, CTA qualified or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience of working in a large corporate or international tax department of a large practice or professional services firm.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK corporation tax, with experience or a clear specialist interest in international tax matters.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop practical, commercially focused solutions.
  • Good project management, organisation and team coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Capable of working on your own initiative while recognising when matters should be escalated.
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with clients, colleagues and wider network specialists.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and people development skills to support the development of more junior staff.
