This creates opportunities for our people to work on complex, cross-border assignments, collaborate with leading specialists across the network and build expertise across the full spectrum of UK and international tax services. From Belfast, our team supports a diverse client base that includes owner-managed businesses, large corporates and multinational groups, giving our people exposure to some of the most interesting and complex tax challenges in the market while benefiting from the scale, resources and opportunities of a growing international platform.

The Grant Thornton Advisors (NI) Tax Team is a growing team of over 90 specialists with deep industry, sector and technical knowledge. Within this our International and Large Corporate Tax team is experiencing strong growth, with increasing demand for international tax, large corporate advisory and compliance services. We are therefore seeking an International Tax Executive/Assistant Manager to join our Belfast team and support the continued growth of the practice.

The role

You will support the day-to-day delivery of international tax and related large corporate tax assignments. Depending on experience and the needs of the team, this may include transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, controlled foreign companies, corporate residence, Corporate Interest Restriction reviews and tax governance work. You will be expected to manage your own responsibilities effectively and contribute positively to client and team delivery.

Excellent opportunities exist for ambitious and driven candidates to progress within the firm. The position attracts a competitive remuneration package and ongoing career development.

Note that the below responsibilities may be adjusted depending on the role discussed.

  • Support the delivery of international and large corporate tax services for clients across a range of industries and sectors.
  • Assist with international tax projects, which may include transfer pricing, thin capitalisation, controlled foreign companies, corporate residence, cross-border transactions and restructuring work.
  • Support services for large corporate clients, including Corporate Interest Restriction reviews and tax governance assignments.
  • Undertake technical research, analyse relevant legislation and guidance, and prepare clear initial conclusions for review by senior team members.
  • Prepare high-quality working papers, calculations, reports and client deliverables in line with agreed scope, deadlines and quality standards.
  • Coordinate assigned workstreams and manage priorities across a number of engagements, keeping senior team members updated on progress.
  • Identify technical, delivery or risk issues and escalate complex, judgemental or higher risk matters promptly.
  • Act as a day-to-day contact for clients on assigned matters, responding to queries and providing progress updates with appropriate oversight.
  • Build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues across the wider firm and other advisers involved in cross-border projects.
  • Comply with the firm’s engagement, quality and risk management procedures throughout the lifecycle of each assignment.
  • Manage time and budgets on assigned work, supporting accurate billing and efficient engagement delivery.
  • Keep up to date with changes in UK and international tax legislation and share relevant knowledge with colleagues.
  • Support and provide informal guidance to more junior team members where appropriate.

  • ACA/ACCA and/or CTA qualified, or working towards a relevant professional qualification, with appropriate practical experience.
  • Relevant experience in corporate tax, international tax or a related tax role within a practice or professional services environment.
  • A sound grounding in UK corporation tax and a clear interest in developing specialist international tax knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions for review.
  • Good project management, organisation and team coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work on your own initiative while recognising when matters should be escalated.
