Job Description

Hays is delighted to be partnering with Whitings LLP, a successful and long-established firm of Chartered Accountants, to recruit an experienced HR Manager. With over 90 years of history and around 160 colleagues, Whitings has a strong presence across East Anglia and places real emphasis on flexibility, development and work-life balance.

This is a broad, hands-on HR Manager role, working closely with Partners and Managers across the firm and providing pragmatic, commercially focused support across the full employee lifecycle. There's genuine scope for the role to become more strategic over time, with Whitings welcoming fresh ideas to help shape the role and evolve its people approach.

With 10 offices across the region, the role can be based in Bury St Edmunds, Ely or March, working three, four or five days per week, alongside hybrid working and some travel to their other offices.

Your new role
You'll provide trusted HR advice and guidance to Partners and Managers, with a broad remit covering employee relations, performance and absence management, organisational change, restructures and TUPE. You'll also lead recruitment across experienced hires, early careers and trainees, alongside supporting salary benchmarking, annual pay reviews and employee benefits.

You'll coach Managers around performance and development, use people data to provide meaningful insight, and oversee HR systems, reporting and continuous improvement. You'll also lead HR projects, training, wellbeing and engagement initiatives and provide HR updates to the Executive Board.

About You
You'll be an experienced HR Manager or established generalist with strong knowledge of UK employment law and broad experience across employee relations, recruitment, performance management and HR operations. You'll be confident advising senior stakeholders, able to build credibility quickly and comfortable managing competing priorities.

You'll be pragmatic, commercially aware and solutions-focused, with the curiosity to look at how things can be done better. Confidence working with people data, salary benchmarking and HR reporting will also be important.

Experience within professional services, financial services, accountancy or another partnership-led environment would be particularly valuable. Above all, you'll enjoy being hands-on while having the ambition to develop and grow with the role.

Why join?
Whitings offers genuine flexibility alongside a strong benefits package, including 25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays, enhanced maternity, paternity and sick pay, pension, income protection and life assurance, Health Shield cashback, paid professional subscriptions and ongoing professional, leadership and management development.

They have impressive employee longevity and a friendly, supportive culture. This is a broad HR role with the opportunity to make a real impact and influence how the firm's people approach develops as the business grows.

Whitings LLP is working in partnership with Louisa London, Business Director at Hays, on this appointment. All applications will be forwarded to Louisa. Please get in touch for an informal conversation about the opportunity.
