Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and overhauls on HGV engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical systems.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools to identify faults and carry out appropriate repairs efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on HGVs.
  • Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with fleet managers and other team members to coordinate repair schedules and minimize downtime.
  • Order and manage spare parts inventory as required.
  • Provide technical support and advice to drivers and other staff regarding vehicle operation and maintenance.
  • Proven experience as an HGV mechanic or heavy vehicle technician.
  • Strong knowledge of HGV mechanical systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulics.
  • Experience with diagnostic equipment and fault-finding techniques for heavy vehicles.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on HGVs.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations related to heavy vehicle maintenance.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Relevant vocational qualifications or certifications in heavy vehicle maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage workload.
