The Role

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Health Care Support Worker to join our Adult Perioperative Department at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support patients throughout their perioperative journey, helping to deliver safe, effective and person-centred care. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Royal Alexandra Hospital
  • Permanent, full-time
  • Day & night shifts

Key Responsibilities

  • Support registered practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality care to patients before, during and after surgical procedures
  • Assist with the safe movement, transfer and positioning of patients within the perioperative environment
  • Prepare, set up, clean and maintain a range of theatre equipment and clinical areas to support surgical services
  • Assist with stock management, equipment checks and the preparation of supplies required for theatre lists
  • Accurately document patient and procedural information using electronic systems and departmental records
  • Support specimen handling, clinical waste management and infection prevention procedures in line with local policies
  • Contribute to a positive team culture while promoting patient safety, dignity and person-centred care at all times

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Demonstrable caring, compassionate and patient-focused approach to supporting individuals in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy clinical environment
  • Good communication, literacy, numeracy and basic IT skills with the ability to accurately record information
  • Willingness to undertake and complete all required in-house training, induction programmes and mandatory learning modules
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, key healthcare policies including infection prevention, health and safety and manual handling practices
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work safely under the guidance of registered practitioners
  • Flexible and motivated approach with a willingness to develop a broad range of perioperative knowledge and transferable skills across theatre specialties
