Requirements

Candidates must be a CA, CPA, or equivalent qualified professional with proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader. Experience in group accounting across multiple currencies and a background in high-growth technology, aerospace, or defense sectors is highly advantageous.

Job Description

Build the finance function behind a global autonomous technology company.

UK – Fareham preferred | Full-time, Permanent Working across NZ & UK time zones | Reporting to the CFO

SYOS is building autonomous systems across air, land, sea and subsurface - taking ambitious technology from concept through to real-world deployment. We’re growing quickly, expanding internationally and entering an exciting stage of growth. For a finance leader, this is an opportunity to build something from the ground up.

The opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, you’ll be the second-in-command of the global finance function, owning the integrity of the numbers and helping shape the financial infrastructure for the next stage of SYOS. You’ll work closely with the CFO, CEO and leadership team, with responsibility across financial control, technical accounting, reporting, audit, systems and finance operations.

You’ll help grow a small finance team, establish scalable processes and reporting, elevate technical accounting and controls, lead global audit readiness and build the foundations required as we work towards our longer-term IPO ambitions.

What You’ll Own

Financial Control & Technical Accounting

  • Own group accounting, balance sheet integrity and intercompany accounting
  • Strengthen technical accounting, policies and financial controls
  • Lead statutory audits and build readiness for increasingly complex global audits

Reporting & Commercial Finance

  • Lead monthly management reporting and performance analysis
  • Build meaningful reporting and KPIs for the CEO, CFO and leadership team
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and long-range planning

Finance Infrastructure

  • Build scalable finance processes, controls and reporting
  • Support the implementation of a new finance MRP
  • Improve AP, AR, cash and working capital management
  • Develop systems and processes that can scale across multiple entities and currencies

Team & Capability

  • Lead and develop a small, high-performing finance team
  • Build capability and structure for future growth
  • Act as deputy to the CFO

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be a technically strong finance professional who knows how to build, not just maintain.

  • CA, CPA or equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance leader
  • Strong technical accounting and financial control capability
  • Group accounting experience across multiple entities and currencies
  • Strong audit and reporting experience
  • ERP / finance systems experience, ideally including implementation
  • Commercially minded with excellent stakeholder skills
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving, high-growth environment

Experience in technology, aerospace, defence, advanced manufacturing, venture or PE-backed businesses would be advantageous.

But mindset matters.

This isn’t a finished finance function with every process documented. You’ll need to be comfortable with pace, ambiguity and change - someone who can move between the detail and the big picture, spot what needs improving and make it happen.

You’ll build the process. You’ll improve the controls. You’ll solve the problem.

Why this role?

For the right finance leader, this is a chance to have a genuine impact on how a global business is built. You’ll work alongside a talented team of engineers, operators, project managers and finance professionals - good people who are invested in SYOS.

There’s real start-up energy here. Things move quickly. Priorities evolve. You’ll have direct access to decision-makers and the opportunity to influence how the business grows.

You won’t be joining to simply report the numbers.

You’ll help build the financial infrastructure that allows SYOS to scale.

And this is only the beginning. Get amongst it.

If you’re a finance leader who wants technical challenge, commercial exposure, genuine ownership and the opportunity to build a finance function for a global technology company, we’d like to hear from you.

You must be eligible for UK Security Clearance and willing to travel extensively internationally.

Step inside the world of SYOS.
