Graduate System Test Engineer
Requirements
A degree, or imminent graduation, in electronic engineering, communications engineering, computer engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related discipline is required. Candidates should have programming experience in C/C++, Python, or MATLAB, scripting familiarity, strong analytical and communication skills, and experience in at least one of software, FPGA, or ASIC development.
Job Description
Application Deadline: 23 October 2026
Department: Test
Location: Southampton, UK
This role is aimed at graduates who want to build a broad understanding of wireless communications and product development. You'll work alongside experienced engineers across software, systems, FPGA, ASIC and test disciplines, contributing to the development, integration and validation of AccelerComm's technology.
A significant part of the role involves working with RF hardware and test equipment, developing test methods and analysing the behaviour of wireless communication systems. You'll gain practical experience of technologies such as 5G, develop software used for test and characterisation, and help investigate and solve real engineering problems.
We don't expect new graduates to arrive with experience in every area we work in. What matters most is a solid technical foundation, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. The role offers exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and the opportunity to develop towards a specialist or systems-focused career path as your experience grows.
This role is based in Southampton and requires regular access to laboratory facilities and test equipment. As a result, the successful candidate should expect to spend a significant proportion of their time working on-site with the engineering team. There is flexibility for some home working where current assignments permit, but this is limited.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development, integration and verification of AccelerComm products and IP.
- Develop software and scripts used for test automation, data analysis and characterisation activities.
- Work with RF test equipment, including signal generators and signal analysers, to support development and validation activities.
- Assist in the development of calibration and test methods for wireless communication systems.
- Support the investigation of system performance, implementation issues and engineering defects.
- Contribute to technical documentation, test reports and engineering reviews.
- Work closely with engineers across software, FPGA, ASIC, systems and hardware disciplines.
- Apply and contribute to engineering processes, tools and development practices.
We're looking for someone who is curious, practical and keen to learn. You'll enjoy understanding how things work, be willing to ask questions, and be comfortable working with engineers from different disciplines. An interest in communications technology, software development and solving challenging technical problems will help you get the most from the role.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Degree qualified (or soon to graduate) in Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Experience in one or more of software, FPGA or ASIC development, gained through university projects, placements or personal projects.
- Programming experience in C/C++, Python or MATLAB.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python, Bash, TCL or similar.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly in both written and verbal form.
- Understanding of wireless communications or digital signal processing.
- Familiarity with 5G or other mobile communication systems.
- Experience using RF test equipment.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git.
- Exposure to FPGA or ASIC development flows.
- Personal engineering, software or electronics projects outside of academic study.
We pay competitive graduate level salaries which depend on skills and experience.
We offer a bonus scheme which pays up to 20% of salary annually, depending on performance. This is in addition to EMI share options, issued periodically. We offer a range of good quality company benefits including pension and private health insurance.
Our offices on Southampton Science Park provide a great working environment, with a coffee shop, bike storage, showers, plenty of free parking and EV charging points.
We operate flexible working hours and offer hybrid working.
