Requirements
Applicants must be internationally trained specialists holding specific qualifications such as MRCPCH/CCT for Paediatrics or MRCP/CCT for General Medicine. Recent clinical experience in the relevant specialty is mandatory to qualify for the expedited registration pathway.
Job Description
Australia has officially opened a new fast-track pathway to specialist registration for internationally trained General Physicians and General Paediatricians — and it’s a genuine game-changer.
From 19 January 2026, eligible doctors can apply directly to the Medical Board of Australia, bypassing the traditional full college assessment process and moving straight toward consultant-level practice.
This pathway is designed for doctors trained in comparable health systems and removes one of the biggest barriers to working in Australia.
Who Can Apply?General PaediatricsYou may be eligible if you hold:
- UK: MRCPCH + CCT (awarded from August 2007 onwards)
- Ireland: MRCPI (Paeds) + CSCST (from July 2010 onwards)
- Recent experience in general paediatrics is required
You may be eligible if you hold:
- UK: MRCP(UK) + CCT in:
- General Internal Medicine (from August 2007), or
- GIM with Acute Medicine (from August 2009), or
- Approved dual CCT pathways (from August 2019)
- Recent practice in general medicine is required
