A Forward Deployed AI Engineer works directly with client engineering and business teams to solve complex challenges and deliver production-grade technology solutions. This is an engineering-first role, combining strong software development expertise with practical AI capabilities to help organisations modernise how they build, deploy and operate software.
What you will do
- Embed with client teams to design, build and operationalise production software and AI-enabled solutions.
- Translate ambiguous business problems into scalable technical solutions.
- Build cloud-native applications using APIs, microservices, containers and serverless technologies.
- Apply AI platforms and tools, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft and Google technologies, to solve real business challenges.
- Help teams adopt AI-assisted software engineering practices to improve delivery quality and velocity.
- Contribute to architecture decisions across applications, data, security, cloud and integration layers.
- Lead technical discussions with stakeholders and drive successful delivery outcomes.
- Coach engineers and promote engineering excellence across teams.
Basic Qualifications
- Strong software engineering experience delivering production systems.
- Experience with cloud-native development using AWS, Azure and/or GCP.
- Proven hands-on coding capability and modern software engineering practices.
- Experience using AI technologies in software delivery, such as LLMs, agents, orchestration, RAG or AI-assisted development tools.
- Ability to solve complex problems and move from concept to production.
- Experience owning technical delivery, workstreams or significant engineering outcomes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring engineers, providing technical leadership or coaching team members.
- Architecture and system design experience appropriate to your level.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with OpenAI, Claude, Vertex AI or similar AI platforms.
- Experience with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or other AI engineering tools.
- Client-facing consulting or delivery experience.
- Open-source contributions, GitHub projects or demonstrable engineering craftsmanship.
- Experience leading engineering teams, technical workstreams or large-scale technology initiatives.
