Job Description

English Teacher — Teach in Japan 2027

TEFL UK is recruiting English teachers for Interac, Japan's largest private provider of Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs). This is a salaried, visa-sponsored role teaching in Japanese state schools on a 12-month contract, with no limit on how many times you can renew.

No Japanese needed. No teaching experience needed. No placement fees.

This is a placement role. Successful applicants will live and work in Japan.

What's included

  • Salary of ¥2.4–3 million a year (approx. £13,000–£16,500), paid in 12 equal monthly instalments, so you're paid through the school holidays
  • Full Instructor Visa sponsorship, with visa costs reimbursed
  • An apartment found for you by Interac, close to your schools (you pay the rent, typically around ¥53,000 a month)
  • Up to USD $1,200 towards your flights
  • Enrolment in Japan's national health insurance
  • Monthly commuting costs reimbursed
  • No application or placement fees through TEFL UK

Requirements

  • A full bachelor's degree in any subject from an accredited university. Diplomas, HNDs and foundation degrees aren't accepted for the visa.
  • Native-level English: born and schooled in a recognised English-speaking country, or 12+ years of education entirely in English
  • Able to complete a full contract year
  • A TEFL certificate strengthens your application but isn't required. Interac provides training before you start.

Why Interac rather than JET?

You can apply at any time of year rather than waiting for the annual government application window. Your regional preferences are considered, and there's no cap on renewals, so you can stay as long as you like.

How to apply

Apply through TEFL UK for free support at every stage: document checks, interview preparation, visa processing and arrival in Japan. Applications are open now for April 2027 and mid-year starts.
