Job Description

The Chelsea Magazine Company is an award-winning publisher of special-interest titles connecting with millions of readers globally. The English Garden is a market-leading newsstand publication in both the UK and North America — an intelligent, glossy magazine featuring some of the nation’s most beautiful gardens.

This is a key editorial leadership role within the business, carrying significant responsibility for a high-volume print production schedule. The Editor leads a dedicated, high-performing editorial team and collaborates closely with key stakeholders across commercial, digital, and publishing teams.

This role is fully remote but you must be based in the UK.

Key responsibilities

  • Managing the end-to-end delivery of exceptionally high-quality publications, ensuring strict adherence to print schedules and budgets.
  • Maintaining detailed content flatplans at least three issues in advance, while commissioning photography and features up to a year ahead.
  • Driving the editorial direction, look, feel and tone of 13 UK editions, 6 North American editions, as well as various standalone bookazines and special supplements.
  • Building effective cross-departmental relationships. This includes working with the commercial team to support client pitches and creative content solutions and working alongside a dedicated digital content team to share knowledge and maximize content reach.
  • You will have a proven track record in a senior editorial role (Editor, Deputy Editor, or Section Editor) within print publishing.
  • Ideally an established gardening journalist with horticultural qualifications; candidates from related lifestyle verticals (e.g., Interiors) with demonstrated horticultural expertise may be considered. However, you must be deeply passionate about gardening and beautiful gardens.
  • Well-connected within the gardening industry with established relationships with respected writers, experts, and photographers.
  • You have extensive experience uploading print titles for press and are highly proficient in InDesign. Additionally, you are confident navigating and working with CMS platforms whenever necessary.
  • Adept at managing editorial budgets and resource allocation effectively.
  • This role requires someone who is highly organised, decisive and calm under pressure, possessing strong diplomacy, leadership, and communication skills.
