Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join Nationwide's Strategy team and play a key role in supporting the Society's growing equity investment activities.

The role will provide first-line Economic Crime expertise across Nationwide's portfolio of innovations, strategic, and growth equity investments, helping to ensure that all investment activity is conducted in line with the Society's Economic Crime Framework, Minimum Control Standards (MCS), and regulatory obligations.

Working closely with colleagues in Strategy, Financial Risk & Controls, and other first and second-line Economic Crime teams, you will help to maintain, evolve, and implement a scalable Economic Crime approach that supports Nationwide's expanding equity investment portfolio whilst ensuring appropriate control and governance standards are maintained.

The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35 hours.

At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing

As an Economic Crime Risk & Control Manager, you'll play a key role in ensuring Economic Crime risks are effectively managed across Nationwide's equity investment activities. You'll develop and maintain a detailed understanding of the Society's Economic Crime Minimum Control Standards and translate these requirements into practical, effective controls, which you’ll then apply throughout the investment lifecycle.

Working closely with colleagues across Strategy, Financial Risk & Controls, and first- and second-line Economic Crime teams, you'll oversee the implementation and ongoing enhancement of Economic Crime processes, from the assessment and onboarding of new investments through to ongoing monitoring and exit. You'll help shape and maintain a consistent control framework that supports both current and future investment activities, ensuring it remains aligned with regulatory requirements, internal standards, and changing business needs.

The role will involve conducting and coordinating Economic Crime risk assessments, maintaining oversight of risks across the investment portfolio, and ensuring robust monitoring, governance, and reporting arrangements are in place. You'll also be responsible for reviewing and updating framework documents, procedures, and risk assessment tools to keep them relevant and effective.

As the primary point of contact for Economic Crime matters relating to equity investments, you'll build strong relationships across the business, coordinate responses to reviews and assurance activities, and represent Strategy in key forums and working groups. Through your expertise and collaborative approach, you'll help ensure the Society's investment activities operate within a robust and effective Economic Crime control environment.

  • Able to demonstrate a solid understanding of Economic Crime risk and control frameworks within financial services
  • Experienced in interpreting policies, standards and regulatory requirements and translating them into practical business processes and controls
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge in at least one of venture capital, private equity, corporate finance, or mergers and acquisitions activity
  • Able to balance commercial objectives with robust risk management and governance requirements
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a great sense of ownership and accountability
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to advise, influence and challenge stakeholders at all levels
  • Comfortable collaborating with senior stakeholders and presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • Able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and high standards of delivery

Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

  • Push for better - We don’t settle for mediocrity, we challenge the status quo, taking responsibility for continuous improvement and personal development

  • Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes
