Job Description

The Role

Are you passionate about nutrition and making a meaningful difference to the lives of children, young people and adults living with complex health conditions? NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a motivated and compassionate Dietetic Support Worker Inherited Metabolic Disorders to join our specialist Nutrition and Dietetics team based at the Royal Hospital for Children. This unique and rewarding role will support patients and families managing inherited metabolic disorders, providing practical education, dietary support and administrative assistance as part of a highly specialised multidisciplinary service. Working within NHSGGC, one of the largest NHS organisations in the UK, you will have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, work alongside expert clinicians and contribute to life-changing care for patients across the West of Scotland.

All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Full-time, fixed-term 12 months
  • You will be based at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow
  • Working flexibly 5 days over 7

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Dietitians in the assessment, monitoring and dietary management of patients with inherited metabolic disorders
  • Communicate with patients, parents and carers regarding blood monitoring results, dietary management and specialist nutritional products
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of clinics, patient activities and educational sessions for children, adults and families
  • Monitor dietary intake, weight, biochemical results and compliance with prescribed nutritional treatments and report findings to the Dietitian
  • Organise appointments, follow up non-attenders and support the administration of specialist clinics
  • Manage stock control and ordering of specialist medical foods, supplements and educational resources
  • Collect, record and analyse clinical and audit data while maintaining accurate electronic patient records

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Educated to SVQ Level 3 or HNC in Nutrition, Catering, Health or a related subject or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience working within a healthcare, education, nutrition or catering environment
  • Demonstrable interest in nutrition with practical food preparation and basic cooking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage confidently with children, families and multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills including experience using databases, spreadsheets and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while demonstrating empathy, flexibility and a patient-centred approach to care
